Needs to START!!!
Hi I just purchased a 73 240z and well I would like to get the engine started so that I at least know I have a working engine when I pull it to replace it with a V8 crate engine....anyway the car hasnt been started since at least 1987 and well I need ideas as to what I should do to get it to start. I have a new battery I plan on replacing all the plugs, draining the gas tank, new fuel filter, Lotsa oil, new dist rotor, new dist cap, and new oil filter....If any of ya have any tips on a good procedure to be able to raise this engine from the dead please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanx for any and all help.

Re: Needs to START!!!
an easy way to check the condition of the inside of the engine is to verify that it has spark, and spray some starting fluid or carburetor cleaner in the intake and try to fire it up-- if it sputs and almost starts then start concentrating on the carbs and intake, if not then concentrate on spark delivery and compression until you can get it to sputter (at least) with the starting fluid--- this is what I do to try to find the problem
