my new 280, with pics. and a few more n00b ?s

here is my 78. only 61k on the motor and chassis. purchased for 600 bucks! i plan on doing a few performance upgrades, all new seats, harnesses, roll bar, body kit, coil overs, wheels, paint, etc. im only 17. so itll make for a good project.

here are my questions!

long story short when me and my dad were picking up the car, we had to change the left rear to get the spare on, cause it was flat. so as he was getting the last lug nut off, it snapped. and its the kind where its got about 3/4 of an inch that actually go into the rim itself. and the part that actually goes in the rim is still stuck in there. and its in there good. we tried hitting it with a punch to try and "shock it" but still nothing. so do you have any other suggestions to get it out? essentially, the rim could just slide off, if the tolerences between the part from the lug nut that goes into the wheel and the actual wheel itself werent so damn tight. these are the same exact rims that came with the car.

i have the orginal front and rear chrome bumpers, they are in very good condition. and i saw on blackdragon that new bumpers are around 5-700 bucks a piece?! whattt? so do those bumpers have any value to em if i try and turn around and sell them? since im going to be putting on a body kit and wont have a need for em.

same as for the wheels? do they hold any value? the bumpers and wheels are in good condition. just dirty as hell. refer to the hyperlink above to see the rims.

EDIT: i just noticed that on the odometer, it only has 5 place values...? so what happens when it gets to 99,999?

now the pictures

Good score, but that lug is going to be a nightmare. So the bottom half of the lug is still screwed on to the stud & is holding the wheel on right? Yeah... been there before. I tried to weld a 17mm nut on the end of a locking lug on a Mercury Tracer. That weakened the metal & it snapped. I spent the next week drilling it & hitting it w/ a hammer. I mangled the rim to shiz.

I suggest getting 2 or 3 carbide spade drill bits ($15-$20 each) & drill into the side of the lug. If you can separate it into 3 or 4 pieces it will come out. You will probably need to replace the stud after that.

As for the bumper... maybe someone will want it. I have a clean 280z chrome bumper rusting away behind my shed... to effin heavy to ship anywhere.

thanks for the input. i might have to try the welding technique. who knows how thatll work though.

and ill have to post it up on sac craigslist and see if anyone wants it. those bumpers arent all that heavy. well, what, like 40 lbs? but when you get up in the double digits in lbs for shipping is when it gets pricey.

After 99k miles it rolls back to 0. Usually a car over 10 years old has more than 100k miles on it, and usually the title (DMV) will state mileage at last registration. I'm sure your car has 161k miles on it (just by looking at it). Unless grandma drove it to the store once a week and then parked it in her barn for 15 years.

hahaha. yeah that makes sence. anyways, i will have to keep you posted on how that lug nut nightmare goes. and thanks for the few ideas.

anyways. the car seems to be extremely clean. body is straight and all. esp for it being a 31 year old car. its almost twice as old as me!

id say 30-40 lbs with the 2 black plastic things on the side, and the 2 mounting brackets.

bumpers will have little to no resale, only someone wanting to restore their 280z to factory would want them. the wheels you could get 100-200 depending on who wants em and ho much you clean em up

hmmm well, i had better not destroy that one wheel trying to get that one part of the lug nut off. i might do what nisomo said and try and weld on a bolt head. or try and drill it out.

and would your car notice that 80 lb weight loss? i mean performance wise, or handling wise.

If I get this 280 im looking at, those bumpers are going in the scrap pile and being replaced with 240 ones. 80lbs is way to much for bumpers

99.9% of people run no bumpers or run 240 stock/FG bumpers lol

there massive, heavy, and ugly.
they are literally park benches, you can sit on that ****

you gotta drop the gas tank to get the rear mounts out, just FYI

Hey just saw your post, if you haven't removed the lug yet put some heat to it and use a pipe wrench. The metal will expand a bit and it should come off. Good luck!
