I'm a 240z noob, I admit it
Hey guys.
I'm just a recent addition to your forum; I'm on the verge of my first car, and I am really considering a 240z. I fell in love with this car after seeing it on your site, this is possibly the most gorgeous car I have ever seen! However, I can't find ANY!
1) Where can I find some for sale? (Canada preferably)
2) What should I look out for?
3) How much (ballpark) am I looking at to repaint, rebuild motor, and possibly minor body work?
4) Thanks!
Cheers, Mark.
Looking for a 240Z as a project. Canada is good, Vancouver is better!

Re: I'm a 240z noob, I admit it
hey well first of all good luck finding one here in canada....(i know it can be found) but good luck......i live in saskatoon and have a 280zx and i so bad want a 240z they rock ***...
anyways if you do find one....watch out for RUST LOTS AND LOTS OF RUST.......if you get one with some minor body rust no problem but watch the frame and main areas of the car.....(they do rust bad) as for bodywork i did it myself engine is good so nothing there......still needs paint......and it all depends where you live for prices.....here if i want paint (decent) its around ~1500 - 2000 umm for engine rebuild....i can get mine done for ~900...and again now be carefull if its got lotsa body work....make sure they dont just fill it up with body filler....replace rusted parts with non rusted ones...you dont wanna be driving and filler just falls out of your 1/4 panel or something.....well hope it helps.....

Hey there.
The engine shouldn't be a problem; I want something with a little more go-juice than the 150hp stock, so I'm going to swap in a 280zx Turbo motor. However, the body will be a pain.
I heard that since this is unibody, you can't just replace say a 1/4 panel, or fender; is this wrong?
I'm deathly afraid of rust, and will probably spend more money on a better car vs. less money on a crappier car.
Thanks for the feedback, anybody else care to add anything?
General 240z lore would be great
Thanks a lot, Mark.

yes it is unibody at the back....most people just cut out their 1/4 panels and put in new ones....front does come off but he back doesnt....and the 280zxT swap yeah that sure way to get come more speed out the 240z and still keeping it all NISSAN/DATSUN thats the way i wanna go if i get a 240z ever (im kinda looking for one too hard to find tho in canada)

Yeah I am slightly discouraged at the rarity of them.
However, I don't think the 260z, 280z, or 280zx can match them in terms of their beauty.
I found two I absolutely LOVE in the Rides section; gah, I love this car.
I am looking all over Canada, and don't mind getting it shipped to me.
So basically, a rear quarter sounds like a real pain to change, so I should avoid a Z with rust on the rear quarter or the floorpan?
Thanks for the help, Mark.

yeah for me 240z beats all of them .....jus cant get one...see i found a 240z here for 10 000....but it was done up ...with a v8 in it no rust at all.....too much $$ for me.....
yes it is a pain to change and do try to avoid ones with rust in floorpans they are worse to change .. im just lookin within saskatchewan but no luck so far...if i get it shippen in here it would have to go trough technical inspection and that would cost me bout $4000 (talked to nissan guys about shippin in a 300zx) look in the traders and stuff i found a couple last year in alberta

The 260z and 280z coupe's don't look that much different to the 240z's, just the bumbers and minor differences here and there. You might have to settle for that, but believe me there are enthusiasts for every model, so you never know you might fall in love with that one. I'm just saying keep your options open, especially if 240's are as hard to find as it sounds.
Rust is a problem, it would definately be hard to find a cheap rust free car.

I see.
What is the difference between these 240Zs?
vs
Notice how one has a hood louver and a spoiler?
I really like the look of the former; but it seems very hard to find, is this an aftermarket thing?
Thanks, Mark.

Yeah, aftermarket front and rear spoiler and side skirts. If by hood louvre (i never now what a louvre is) the bonnet buldge, they all have them, except on the top one it has been painted to accentuate it. I'm not sure how hard that sort of stuff is to find whereever you are, i think there are a few catalouges you should try
