Ignition switch locks in Lock
Okay guys I have a 74 260Z and the ingition switch locks up
when you turn the key to lock position I dont mean the steering wheel locks as it is supposed to
the key will not turn until by pure happen stance I wiggle it and the wheel in some combination then it releases (normally takes about 30 min worth of wiggleing to get it free)
what is the secret handshake this thing looks for to unlock?

if the steering wheel has been locked into place, it puts pressure on the ignition lock. by removing pressure from the lock, the key is free to turn. don't yank the wheel hard the other way, just move it ever so slightly that there is no longer pressure on the lock.

yeah, the locking from the steering wheel on the ignition on older cars is a little more sturdy than the locking mechanism on newer cars. what I do to get my Z out of the lock position is put a little bit of pressure on the right side of the steering wheel, as if you were turning the wheel towards the ignition switch. Usually with a little turn, the ignition unlocks no problem!
