I got head today...

I ordered another head for my Z (makes three, I have one that needs new valves and guides, one that is toast-it's cracked, and now the new third one) and I got it today. I spent a pretty penny on it, but it was less than it would have costed to get new valves and valve job done to it. The new head is from a 260Z, and it has the larger exhaust valves than the 240Z does (I double checked with the valves I have from my 260Z head). All I have to do is put the rocker arms on 2 of the valves (they were taken off for shipping purposes, so that the valves weren't sticking out), bolt the sucker on, do a last minute valve adjustment, and I'm off hopefully! Here's some pics for ya.

Oh, and does anyone know of an easy way to compress the valves while the camshaft is still on the head? I could take the cam off, but I'd rather not bother with it, because that's how I stripped one of my bolts last time. I may have to do it that way though...we'll see.

Oh, and I forgot, the head was shot peened, boiled, resurfaced, reground cam and rockers, new valves, new valve guides, new valve seats and seals, pressure tested, etc etc.

You can rotate the cam so the lobe is pointing away from the rocker and take up the slack. At that point you can set the valve lash clearance. Do each valve seperately. Position the timing marks approximately and set the head on the block carefully with the gasket on. Now you can get the timing gear and chain on and set the timing marks. Now you can bolt everything up.

If your are using the used cam, rockers, guides, be sure to match them up (original lobe with original rocker, guide, etc.). If you do not, you'll wear your cam down like I wore mine down. The jerk that did my valve job didn't mark anything and I guessed wrong with what rocker / guide went with each lobe. Now the engine is back apart.

Sux!!
