The curse of the radiator!!!

As some of you may know my radiator in my 78 goet a hole in it. Well I swapped it out with the one from my ZX. Now I have to problems with that one.

1. Its to tall the hood will not close all the way.

2. Apperently when I sold the zx to that kid they blew that radiator as well so all in all I swapped in a radiator with a hole in it and one that s too tall. ARe there any other radiators that i can get from a junk yard that will fit other than from a Z??

hmm... to tall. theres not way to mount it so it hangs lower instead of hanging higher? other wise just go to radiator barn i think thats what it is called. they will send you a brand new shiney radiator for a great price.

go here: http://www.radiatorbarn.com/

Ok, first you don't have to mount the radiator straight up and down, you can kick the bottom out towards the engine or visa versa...you may have to get creative but hey ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If you have to find one at a junk yard look for cars like ours with short from top to bottom noses...old rx7's Supra and Starions...you get my drift. Have you looked into 200sx's and 240sx radiators? Hope that helps a little. TAKE A TAPE MEASURER!!!

did you use only the upper two mounting holes in the radiator and mount them or the lower two? Try reversing whatever you did. I did mount a 280ZX radiator in a 280Z before and the hood closed.

the top two holes I'll try the botoms once i get it repaired. I'm going to drain it and put in a radiator sealer a goldish product and see if that helps.

Is it BARSLEAK? That stuff will kill your coolant passages. Cholesterol for your car.

DO NOT ADD ANYTHING OTHER THAN COOLANT AND WATER TO YOUR SYSTEM. trust me, you do that it will plug everything, and i mean everything up. it sticks to thrmostats, headgaskets, and everything in the rad. any small hoses get plugged, and your water pump can even blow. dont do it skittle. just get a new rad, cheaper in the long run, but costly now. just eat kd for the next few weeks, spruce it up with some weiners. or make ghetto cheese sandwiches!

Are you seriously considering putting a junkyard radiator in your car???

Dude, I'm sure you aren't made of money but please... for the love of all things Z... Don't skimp on the radiator. Buy a new one. They are cheap. If you can't afford one right now... wait til you can. Your car will thank you.

Rod.

hey you pulled the rad out, why send it to a shop, its easy, and cheaper to do it yourself. reverse your steps, and its done. heck check the all mighty ebay for a rad.

Yes, the stop leak stuff is no good. Have you ever seen when that stuff clumps up around the radiator cap opening when you put it in? It turns in to a rock...it can do the same thing in the engine...I don't know why that stuff is still legal to sell. The brand that looks like sand anyway.

Oh and no the zx rad. won't fit, tried, had to cut and almost lost a finger. To tall, so i bought one out a 280z in utah....was almost brand new, well after sitting for a few years..

FWIW, if it's just a hole, any decent rad shop should be able to repair that in no time flat. I had Aurora radiator in Seattle put the entire top tank back together for my Toyota truck in less than 2 hours (the seam had just started to split and leak). They cleaned it inside and out, too, even put a nice coat of black on it. I took just the radiator to them, so it was only $60 (10 years ago, it's been solid ever since). While I'm sure it's a little bit more now, Vegas should have a bunch of shops like that around that could turn it around quickly for relatively little cash. There used to be a place here in Boulder about 5 years ago that would repair small leaks for $10 to $20. It was kind of a scary place (3-sided dirt-floored shack), but their repairs were budget priced and held up just fine.
good luck,
Dave

I've got a radiator with a little bit of damage to the front of it from it hitting the engine when I was in an accident. It's a "brand new" 3 row radiator. I paid $250 for it, and it only was in the car for 300 miles before it was damaged. You can have it, just pay for shipping. I was quoted $40 by my local radiator shop to fix it. I just need to clear some space
