Car dies then starts after 20 minutes or so

Hello ZDriver! New member here with an issue....The car is a 78 280z with L28ET swap. Every couple of months or so when driving my Z it loses power, runs rich (according to my air fuel gauge) and then backfires and stalls. I noticed the volt gauge go crazy as she was bucking and backfiring but that was probably due to the car cutting in and out.I've gone over all of the wiring and did as many tests as I could according to the FSM. Everything checks out. CHTS in spec, AFM checks out etc. After the stall the car will turn over but not start until I give it 20 minutes or so. Then it starts up and runs as usual. I've cleaned all of the wiring plugs, sockets and grounds etc. After doing research I think it may be the ignition related. Maybe the coil transistor(ignition module). It just happens out of the blue. I went for a cruise on the hottest day of the year and had zero issues but last week I went for a night cruise when it was cool and she died. Totally random, started up after 20 minutes like nothing happened. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks very much for reading!!
Rick

Could be your coil is getting too hot. As it over heats the spark gets weak and dies. When it cools off it is ok again. Check for a nice crisp blue spark. Might just need a new condensor on it.

Cool. As it is there is no condenser attached at either the atlernator or the coil/dizzy. I thought these condensers were for RF (radio Interference) and not needed to run.

I think he meant ballast resistor!

For the later system and distributors, I am 99.99999% certain they are only there for RF interference, I think earlier type points systems needed them to bleed of some unused voltage between point contacts. You should be fine without it.
