battery drained again
hey my car keeps draining all my batteries but i can't figure out the problem i don't think it's my alternator i've checked it in several ways. there are these weird cords that are connected to the battery that are kinda funny i think they are to my cd player any advise?

In what "ways" did you check the alternator?
Usually a repeat dead battery is due to an accessory still sucking power... stuck door pin switch, radio, lights, mis-wired stereo/amp, short somewhere...

Some times the Alt can drain the battery... as in over time... and that can't be tasted at the store... if the reg not working right them it will drain your batt... to see if this is it, just unhook the wires to the alt., or now that's out of the car, hook up the batt cables... check the volts (12.6 is full charged) check it again 5-6 hours later, sound not drop more than 0.2 volts... if you loose more than than that, then take out all the fuses, do same test, if the volts are the same, them put 1 fuse in at a time and do the same test... BTY do the same test on the batt... take cables off... let set for 5-6 hours and check for drop... I've seem new batteries off the self be bad... good luck

i used to have an 86 300zx, and one time it had a short in the wiper switch, which caused the battery to drain overnight. its possible you may have a short somewhere which would really suck if you did... just throwing out some ideas, hope it helps

Does anyone use a multimeter any more??
Using a multimeter between likely points that are drawing from your battery will tell you exactly where the drain is happening, and at what rate. I.E. Regulator/Alternator, Radio, lights, etc.
With the key off, everything should turn off with it, breaking the circuit at the relays.
So, with the key off, and the positive lead taken off the battery, if you were to check voltage between the cable end, and the battery positive lead, you should see 0v. Anything else with the key switch off is a drain. Sometimes things are hooked up to run without key power. Things like alarms. So, you will see a drain. But, you can then separate the components and find out which one is the one making the drain, by going doing things like checking it's power source, or even taking fuses out one by one to see when the drain stops.
Good luck. Finding a draw in the system is not hard. Fixing it sometimes is.
