about to get my new z
about to get my new z
ok so i am getting a 78 280z with a turbo motor, but there is no turbo. the guy that i am buying it from had a totaled turbo 280zx and he had someone put it in for him if he gave them the turbo. and yes it is a turbo motor but my queston is what would be the best way to make it turbo again.the car is running off of the 78 efi system now i know that i cant use that if i what to go turbo. the motor has 49,000 on and the turbo five speed and rear end. i am getting the car on feb. 6 and i will have pitures. i cant wait and i cant sleep at night i have been waiting four years to get a runnig z. one of my friend said that i should put a blower on it, well what ever is easyier to get force induction. anyone how can help!
hmmm.... go get your self the turbo oil pan.. turbo oil feed and return lines.. turbo down pipe turbo manifold.. turbo injectors turbo J pipe turbo intake turbo AFM turbo ECU and turbo harness... bolt and play!!!! no big....
ok that didnt help at all!can i use any t3/t4 turbo? my goal is 10-12 psi in boost. i looked throw treads for hours not much help, so will i have any problems with fiting the turbo (78 never came with turbo) i havent found anyone on the website that has dont this in a 78 280z. i also am going to us an intercooler. i dont want to use water injuction what are the limits to the stock turbo motor?

So you need a turbo exhaust manifold, turbo oil pan, turbo injectors, turbo ecu (or aftermarket fuel management), etc etc etc... To answer your next question: you need the appropriate sized turbo for the L28 motor. A dinky Saab turbocharger isn't going to flow enough air... A massive TO7 is going to lag way too long. So find a stocker 280zx turbocharger, or find a mild T3/T4.
well that is what i am looking for thank you NismoPick! i have seen your 280zxt on google ect.ect. but is it can i run 10psi on a stock 280zxt turbo if i get a intercooler and a the other stuff that i need . see my goal 200 to 280whp. i dont wont to push my luck on the motor i just want to have a little fun on the week end.
200 and 280 is a BIG gap... 200 is more than do able on the stock turbo with supporting mods.... if you only want to run 10-12 psi im sure the stock turbo can push that out just fine.... the intercooler... well i dont know if there are any intercooler kits for these cars but you can always just buy the intercooler and find some one that is good at welding and has a pipe bender and pipes the proper diameter and get custom plumbing setup for probably around 200 dollars... stock the intercooler runs 7psi i think... but if its a real turbo motor it has a POV on the intake mani that i think will pop up and you will loose your boost at 10-12 psi.... so that needs to get plugged or stiffened... im no expert on how to do that... but im sure some one here is. look around on ebay and hybridz.org and classiczcars.com and zcar.com for stock turbo or a t3/t4 setup but they will be more expensive and most likley not neccessary for only 10-12 psi....
the stock motor i know is strong in the block area i dont kow much about the rods and pistons though for how much booost they can handle... but 10-12 psi shouldnt be a problem i would hope.
