78z only starts sometimes

Hi there,
I recently purchased a 78 280z. The fuel pump does not want to run when the car is being turned over but when wired directly to the battery it will pump gas. It will start once and a while and purr like a kitten but its very anoyying when the pump decides not to run. Any help would be great.

thank you

Welcome to ZDriver!

Start by checking (replacing) the fuel pump relay and wiring / connections. Also, download the FSM at www.xenons30.com/reference

The AFM activates the fuel pump on these cars so, I would check the connection on the afm itself. It helped me get my 76 running some years back.

On the '78 cars the fuel pump is wired through the oil pressure switch not the AFM. Check your wiring at the oil pressure sender switch, it could be bad.
