280z Street Racer
i as wondering what i should start out on my car. what parts i should get first. i have a 1978 280z all stock. i dont even know where to begin. i dont really want to go as far as putting a v8 conversion in it. i just want to keep it nice. i want max speed though because i want it to be a street racer. i just want to beat the pants of some kids racing with their un-modded BMW M3s and Integra Vtecs. i just need some advice. thanks,
greg

Re: 280z Street Racer
First thing I would recommend would be the basics.
Intake and Exhaust for sure. I've also found that I can pick up quite a bit hp (as verified by my highly calibrated butt-o-meter) with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator.

Re: 280z Street Racer
You're not gonna beat any stock M3 that's younger than your 280. The BMW 2.8L produces a hell of a lot more power than any factory L28. As for the VTEC Hondas, Civics? probably, Integras/Preludes, not likely. You'll need a worked L28, or a L28ET to get in the ball park.
That doesn't mean you can't surprise them & beat them on a good day.
I agree with the handling-before-power approach. A stock engined Z with good suspension/brake mods will be a heck more fun to drive than one with heaps of power & crap suspension.
