280Z Project Thread

Well Heres another build thread of mine. Probably mostly gonna be photos.

Nismo if you want you can combine the other threads into one big glob if you want but please leave this one out lol

I'm going to rip out all the EFI stuff and Install double SU carbs and also rip out the auto trans for a nice 5 speed. After that I'm going to change the rear differential to a R200 with 3.9 gear set. I'll also be doing a ton of body work, finding and killing all the rust I can find And turning it into a 1970 240Z clone (sept for the hatch anyways) Meaning I need to find the hood, grill, lights, bumpers, ect. I also want to get a nice air dam, ZG Fender flares, pannasport wide wheels and bullet fender mount mirrors. Then I'll re-badge it as a 240! Oh ya, With midnight blue paint!

Heres where I started at

Ok Im confused... I removed the EFI relay and I know the big one and my custom one is for the fuel pump. What are the other 2 for???

NEVERMIND! I figured it out. One is for the deleted AC system and the other is the inhibitor realy. I'm just gonna deleted both then make a new relay bracket.

Uh probably a dumb question but, one of the line on the charcoal canister broke off on me and now Im wondering if I can even use a charcoal canister with a set of SUs. Or do I run the vent line right into a port on the carbs and leave the thing out of the car?

Well I was trying to cut off the exhaust system and I broke nearly every blade I had and I lost my temper a little and punched a panel on the Z, turns out I found another entire panel covered in like 1/2" of bondo. Im starting to get worried....

If you are in Utah then no to the canister. Looks like you have the same rust spot on the cowl that i do, surface only of course. If you are looking for a good rust free body then check down here in vegas. I'll keep an eye out for you as well. If you have any questions about the carb swap just ask I swapped back and forth on my 76.

Actually as for the carbs its pretty straight looking. I only cusios about the return on the carb lines an the fi lines... the carb return line is like 1/2 the size of the EFI return line

Ah neato. Not sure if I'll be in Vegas or still on the plane on Saturday.

Right now them I'm powder blasting the intake and exhaust manifold to get them to a nice shine. Then I'll install the carb and replace the electric fuel pump for a low pressure carb pump.

Thats what I had was a low pressure holly put out about 5 psi and worked great with the carbs. I sold my carbs but I still have 2 whole intake assemblies.

Ok thats it. I'm gonna put this Z on a rotisserie And start cutting out all the rust and removing all the paint and under coating. this is getting to be bullshit....

Is there anything I should be worried about with it on a rotisserie? like idk the body crumpling up or something?

If you can, mount the car to the rotisserie, using the bolt holes for the bumper brackets.
