turbos do not play nice with carbs, so unless you want to go to fuel injection, i would take turbo out of the equation.

Turbo all the way. You can buy (depending on location) a 280zx turbo parts car for less than a set of tripple weber carbs. To make full use of those carbs you'll need a lot more work done to the head and exhaust. (and in the end, a stock turbo L28 running stock boost will still be as fast or faster)

i only blew one gasket but it was within only a few hundred miles. and it was because i had a broken and frozen bolt in the head, the one ALLL the way on the end so it left one exhaust port really unsupported. and it wouldnt come out, proke drill bits in it, broke and extractor in it, helicoils are crap so i just re-tapped it a slightly larger size.

That's the reason why I re-did my exhaust/intake gasket was to fix that broken stud.
