Ok Been looking for 3 days, time to ask

Ok, so my engine is gonna need a rebuild. Just to much is going on with it. So it has a n47 head, which i read will then have a n42 block. Now my question is, can i put the p90 head on this block and turbocharge it safely? I have read so many differing views. Also, what would i need to do this? please help, i have used the search and i cant find the info i have been looking for. thanks

Well this is a good first read: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/240z-280zxt-s30-s130-tech-tips-275/turbo-swap-ticking-people-off-since-2003-a-19638/

Do you already have a P90 head, turbocharger, and turbo exhaust manifold?

Cool. Yep, the bottom end of the block is virtually the same. The turbo L28ET block uses lower compression dished pistons to allow for boost (boost increases compression ratio), and slightly different rings. But many have installed a turbo & run 6-8psi w/ no probs.

You will also need the turbo ecu (or aftermarket efi controller), turbo (or larger) injectors, oil supply to turbo, and turbo oil pan (or weld in a bung) for oil return. Those are the major things.

Minor things: gotta fab up a custom connection for the exhaust downpipe, & intake from turbo to throttle body.

You can get stock, flattop, or turbo pistons and rings, in standard, oversize 1, and oversize 2 from MSA, Black Dragon, and probably even some of your local parts houses (good ones, not CheckerSchuckKragenAutoZone). Or even order custom, if you wanted. Note that the pistons are fitted to the con rods and pins by a very tight, heated interference fit. Get your machinist to swap the new pistons on to your con rods using his rod heater. Much simpler and cheaper than trying to fake it yourself, and he'll have your block already for hot tanking, and maybe boring/honing... right?
Have fun with the rebuild/mod! Perfect winter project.
cheers,
Dave

Does a 76-77 280z have flat top or dished pistons?

So, i could use stock 280z pistons for a turbo motor then? The one from MSA would work good?

you can use any pistons you want, just keep in mind the higher your CR the less boost you can run safely.
