engine swap question

so im 100% new to the whole nissan scene so please excuse my arrogance. but im currently thinking about buying a 240z but but have a few questions about the engine swaps, ive looked around through some threads about engine swaps, but what i cant seem to find the engines that would be compatiable. what i mean by that is the way subrau makes there engines you can dropp pretty much any engine in any subaru (from exp) with out changing the factory engine mount locations or changing the sub frame. so my question is are there any engines in the nissan family that would do the same like the 280zx turbo or the rb20 (just suggestons) that would fit with out minimal fab work? also would a 5 speed tranny from a 280zx fit?

if you stay with the L28 engine (240z on up to 280zx) most everything is mix and match. there are probably a few exceptions but without knowing what you propose hard to say. You can for sure take an L28T and put it into the earlier cars but before 77 or 76 I forget when they went to FI you have to find a spot to mount the Ecu and some wiring needs doing or go the megasquirt route.

well honesly wiring up an ecu is no problem at all ive done it before, just long and tedious. And i would prefer the fi system rather than carbs (no idea how to work on em). As long as the swap dosent need much fab work as i dont have constant access to a welder. So in other words anything from the 240-280 is pretty much "bolt on"?

yep. you would probably want the L28 engine vs the L24 for the extra displacement. Also the engines in the 82,83 years were perhaps better than earlier. Once you jump to the VG30 engine totally different. 84 the first year. VG30 is a v6 and the L engine is a straight six but it is bulletproof.

cars with the turbo l28 engine were made in 81, 82, 83. rb engine came in the skyline i believe they are hard to come by.

well im just throwing out suggestions (ebay you can find rb20s and rb25s and 33s) but its probably safe to stick with the s30 engine just so i know everything will bolt strait on.
