Rear Brake Adjuster not grabbing
My '71 Z's driver's side rear brake self adjuster is not working. The arm does not grab the teeth on the adjustment wheel. The only thing I can think of is to bend the arm some. I've had the car since 1978 but haven't driven it a lot lately. The back brakes haven't been changed in years and that's probably because they were not doing any braking. Does anyone have suggestions on how I should fix the adjuster?

Make sure that the star wheel thingy is well greesed and cleaned. Sometimes I have found that if this particular part isn't well lubed it will cause it to not grab and turn. So, first thing I would do if you haven't allready is to clean and lube.

I know that you do not want to hear this, but given the age of the car, I would order a New Hardware Kit, Cylinders, Rear Adjusters and Shoes. Then I would get busy! You might be able to disassemble the Adjusters and reuse as long as there is not a groove worn in the Adjuster. You can un-screw these assemblies and clean with a solvent of some kind and then re-lube with some high temp grease. Re-Assemble and adjust the Rear Wheel until you get appropriate drag on the Drum. Email me if you have questions.
