Looking for the light at the end of the tunnel

Just recently ressurected a 1974 260Z 2+2 from a local auto wrecking yard and now things are happening fast. First the heater core blew out on it's
maiden road test after some engine repairs. Next the SU carbs began to
load up and she backfired on accel. But now the brakes are very hard and
the booster hisses. I am told that this car only uses one booster and it is
difficult to find. Is there any booster that is interchangeable with the 2+2?
I want to restore this car and I am working on a tight budget.

Thank You

restoration doesn't come on a tight budget, but can easily be worked out over a period of years..

There may have been a good reason it was at the wrecking yard, but it was also a good thing you saved it.

Pics of the car? We love seeing pictures, it gets us excited. It'll also give us an idea of how much you may be spending to restore, and we can refer you to places for parts if you ever need any.

I will post some pics soon but first I will tell you that the valve train was noisy and upon removing the cover I found two valves that lost the retainers on top. I was able to get them back in place and readjust all of them. After doing so I got 17 inches of vaccum and a somewhat smoother idle. The other issue was an occassional backfire on accel and that could be because of the booster issue. The body has no dents or rust anywhere and the interior is in extremely good condition. With the exception of the clock and radio and lights the electrical is also good. The wipers did not work but that is because the drivers pivot is contaminated and binding. With the arms off the motor has all speeds and goes to park when off. The car was originally red and shall be that color once again. I paid $1600.00 and it has no smog devices the A/C is cold considering it sat in the wrecking yard for nearly 2 years she is strong. Working on this car reminds me of the 64 Mustang because it is so simple in design. Once I get another booster I am sure that the tuning of the SU carbs will be easy and for a six she will roar. I have built several racing cars and there won;t be a lot to getting this Z on her heels.

Exactly, when I had the v8 setup, I wasn't making much if any vacuum and it worked/works flawlessly.

Ok I'm gonna sound stupid but I get it about the 280ZX but what is 15/16 supposed to mean. I removed a booster that has a smaller diameter and the master cylinder that was
attached. I will go back to the yard with the booster and master cylinder I removed and the unit that was on our car and match them up and exchange. If that doesn't do the
trick than I can go the otehr way or order another from a ccompany in Tenn.for $199.95
made for the 2+2 and be done with it. I am also looking for either the stock air cleaner
or a dual pot filter set for the SUs. She is driveable and before the breakdown seemed
on the way to recovery. So if I get a 280ZX booster I have to flip it upside down and
trim the studs that go through the firewall?
