81 280zx Brake issues please assist!!

This may be the wrong place for this but didn't know where else to start out looking for help on this one...
So this is long and drawn out but I have to go through it to try and get adequate help with this issue, I apologize in advance.
I acquired a 81 280zx GL coupe. The owner was a hack and slash type of guy with big dreams of dropping an LT motor in her eventually and decided to remove the original EFI out of the car and replaced it with a Holley carb and cartech intake. I got the car with no brakes except the E brake. The brake booster was bad and wheezing so I replaced it, and bled the system. The brake pedal was solid with the car not running but as soon as I start the engine I loose the firmness in the pedal. The vacuum line from the brake booster is connected to the intake. Is this correct or is this where I'm losing my pressure once the engine is started? Or could it be a problem with the check valve or master cylinder? I also noticed electrical leads coming off the brake reservoir caps, can anybody tell me what these are for?
Thank you again and any help is greatly appreciated.

electric leads are low level warning red light on dash. a vacuum line goes to a place on the intake manifold which has vacuum. It is why it is called a vacuum line.

Thank you for the response. I am new to the world of Datsun/Nissan so I'm trying to learn as I go. Of course it would have been an easier learning process if the car I ended up with hadn't ben neglected to the extent she was, but then what fun would that be... After further research, I found that the check valve has gone bad and no longer working. I have a new one on order and we'll see if that cures my somewhat precarious situation
