Reaction time starts when you trip the staging lights. When you line up, there is two lasers that go across the track. When you roll through the first laser, the top staging light comes on. When you roll through the second laser, the second staging light comes on. When you leave the line the lasers will re-connect and when both are re-connected thats when your reaction time is clocked. You can also deep stage, which is when you roll forward, break the first staging laser, break the second staging laser, and keep going until the first staging laser re-connects itself. You are deep staged when only the second staging light is on. This is good to do if you are late on your reaction, its kind of like a head start.

ok, sorry for being such a nooB, but I thought "reaction" time was how quickly you leave the gate once the light turns green, hence your reaction. if this is not the case then I am lost and will need a better explanation tonight

Actually, you should try leaving on the last yellow. You want to get as close as you can to breaking the lights as the green light comes on. If you wait until the green, the clock is ticking and your reaction time won't get clocked until you roll forward out of the lights, which is usually like a foot or so.

 

Reaction time starts at the green light and stops after you roll off of the second staging beam.

Your ET doesn't start until you roll off of the second beam.

So! You can sit on the line as long as you want and have a crappy reaction time but still end up with a good ET because the ET doesn't start until you move off of the line.

Just think of it as 2 seperate clocks. One stops when you roll off of the line (RT) and one starts when you roll off of the line (ET).
