Silver State Classic Open Road Race

So I think I want to try one of these this year. I think I will try and get some support from my sponsors to see if I can cover most if not all of the entry fees for me and a navigator. The entry fees for a driver/navigator team in the 130mph - 150mph class, plus the manditory driving school, and speed certificates come out to $1,135.00. Then there is the expense of a new set of tires, full roll cage, GPS Navigation (optional), and the cost of re-corner balancing with the passenger seat and navigator. Oh, and both myself and the passenger would need a driving suit, shoes, gloves, the whole bit. So I figure $2500 all together without the cost of the roll cage and optional GPS. If I could get the funds together for something like that, would one of you guys be interested in being my navigator? If we get enough money you could get a full driving suit, shoes, and gloves out of it.

More info on the event...

Here's a breakdown of pricing for literally EVERYTHING that we would need...

Entry Fee - Grand Sport Division (130-150mph) = $680.00
Navigator's Participation Fee = $150.00
Driving School Qualifying = $235.00
Speed Certificate = $60.00 (Two @ $30.00 each)
OMP "Trend" Driving Suits = $1,200.00 (Two @ $600.00 each)
OMP "Pole Position" Gloves = $260.00 (Two @ $130.00 each)
Simpson "Low Top" Racing Shoes = $160.00 (Two @ $80.00 each)
Simpson "Voyager" SA2005 Helmet = $790.00 (Two @ $395.00 each)
HANS Devise = $1,840.00 (Two @ $920.00 each)
Vinyl Car Lettering = FREE
Corner Balancing = $????
New Tires = ~$1,100.00
Full Roll Cage = ~$2,000.00

TOTAL DREAM LIST PRICE = $8,475.00

I HIGHLY doubt I could raise nearly $8500 for this race, but it could be worth a try to see how much we can get and how much we would have to come out of pocket.

Now this could be reduced really easily since I already have a helmet and gloves, and whatever the navigator has as well. The full roll cage I will pay for too since I was going to do that anyway, but it would be nice to get sponsors to pay for it

Throw in the cost of renting a helicopter and I'll shoot you some video/promotional pics.

I think that with sponsors and donations from forum members we may be able to get this done. I think I might set up a PayPal account for it and everything. I am sure some of my sponsors will throw in a little something and we can even promote it to local buisnesses to put their logo on the car for this event only. Heck, a magazine might even throw in a little to cover the story on the whole process. I am just worried about things getting crazy if I don't get enough money and have to return the donations.

It is a fun event. The racers take over the whole town of Ely for the weekend. I have run it a few times and got talked in to navigating once. I also worked on the timing / scoring crew a couple times.

I was thinking about it, you may want to look into an in car communication system. With the helmets on and motor screaming (with no sound deadening) you'll have to yell to hear each other. You don't want to be doing that for the entire race.
