Running Richer Than A Saudi Prince
Spark plugs *had* good color before I replaced starter. Somehow I must've knocked loose a vacuum line or a wire because now I'm running very rich, engine nearly dies, plugs are black, exhaust pipe is black and sooty.
What could I have messed up? I don't have a diagram of the vacuum lines, just a useless Clilton pseudo manual.

Thanks, I had planned on replaceing the boot anyway - its got a lot of cracks, probally the original fron 21 years ago. Plug gaps were between .038 and .041.
Last night I drove it for the first time, just a few miles. It ran a little rough and seemed to lack acceleration, but I didn't want to push it too hard. The oil pressure is great at idle but decreases as rpm goes above 1,800. Probably the oil pressure sender but until I'm certain I don't want to chance blowing up the bottom end.

This Baby Rocks!
Well, I checked thg plug gaps, cleaned the electrodes the best I could, but discovered that two plug wires were crossed. I fixed them then started the engine. Wow, what a difference - she idled smooth as a baby's butt. No wonder I thought it was running a bit rough and should've had better acceleration.
So, I took it out for my second ride. The thing flys! It was almost scary. Only problem was there was a cop in front of me. We came to a light, he turned, I went straight. Damn, that Z Car was feeling good as I ran it up through 1st, 2nd, then as I hit 3rd I saw another cop in my rear view. I turn right, cop turns right. Things aren't looking good. Another mile, he's right on my tail. I turn right again, cop goes straight. I'm feelin better now, but never got out of 3rd.
This puppy rocks. Now, what can I do to kick it up a notch or three. Cam? 60mm throttle body? Any suggestions?

i jus finished a 2 1/4" straight pipe
im gonna do the 60mm TB and turbo AFM (bigger) and KN so hopefuly that gets it into smoother running shape....building a cruiser so if i get it to the stock HP rating that it was 20 years ago ill be happy
cam would be a great start....

Let me know how the 60mm TB works out - I've seen them on eBay for `$100.00. One thing I don't understand with the 60mm TB is won't the rest of the intake system be 58mm and still create a bottle neck? Actually I have no idea what size the AFM and other items are, but I'd expect them to be 58mm.

Yes, the rest of the intake is a bottleneck, mainly the AFM.
First of all, even a turbo AFM looks to be about the same size opening as a stock throttle body... so, you be the judge. But going with everything larger will help. One thing I have also heard is to use a 3-series BMW AFM from about '84-92 they are a 2.5L 6-cyl with Bosch fuel injection like our Z's. Normally aspired already so you use the electronics that are already inside. All they need is a little richness adjustment and the opening is supposivly larger than even the 280zx turbo AFM! (I have not verified this) used BMW parts cost more, so maybe you can steal one.
As for the tubes/boots maybe make some custom ones out of PVC or aluminum so that you maintain a smooth transition from one device to the next through the intake. Dont' forget to port match the intake manifold.
