Question on wiring

I have a problem with a short to ground when I crank the car. The car cranks and runs but it blows one of my 20 amp fuses I replaced the fuseable links with. I found that with the ignition ON the coil BW wire shorts to ground. I discovered that if I unplug the EFI relay the short goes away.
I have traced the problem to the green wires at the relay. After close inspection of the wiring diagram I noticed one of the G wires leaves the relay then goes to a connector. It appears to my untrained eyes this connector (under C3) connects the G wire to a BW wire.
Confused.

dont try and understand the wiring on some of these parts, it will confuse you and drive you crazy. so if you unplugged the efi relay and it goes away, then there are i think 4 or 5 wires that leave it. if you have a short at the coil, try taking the wires off and testing there first, does it still short, if not, that eliminates those wires, they are just a byproduct of the symptom. next find out what wire goes where and unplug them, at some point the short will stop happening. it may be that efi relay is grounding out internally from moisture etc. most bw wires are +12v, the green g wires can are usually +12v as well.

True but on the schematic the relay greens seem to be earth. Going to do more testing today

Maybe I should ask if the 83 ignition switch is compatible to the 79? I swapped the ignition switch over because the 79 was damaged.

Ignition switches should be the same. You can verify with the fsm for that year and the wiring diagram. www.xenons130.com

Here was the problem. I had a former fusible link wire connected to a 20 amp fast blow fuse. Needed a 30 amp slow blow. The ground issue was a ruse. I was chasing my tail.

Nothing like chasing tail however chasing your own tail is not quite a fun...
