Yes... I know I need to pull the tranny. The debate is:

Mount the tranny to the engine & drop them both in from the engine bay?

or

Drop in the engine & man handle the tranny onto the engine from under the car?

I usually install the tranny under the car, after the engine is in, but I'm thinking I might try shoe horning them both in from the top.

ya, I didn't remove the tranny in my Z when I swapped in the turbo engine. I installed it by myself.

If you have a leveler on the engine hoist then its easy to work the tranny and engine combo into the car... .well, and the L28 is quite a bit longer so in that case it makes a big difference.

Maybe you should just wait a few days and think about your options...

OVERHAUL 99% complete

Day 9: Engine dropped in & bolted down... took 3 friggin hours to get the tranny splines into the clutch! I was beginning to think it would have been easier to pull the tranny, but like Bleach & Ice said to do, I left it in & mated the engine to it.

Day 10: Filled w/ oil, re-connected wiring harness, and started her up! No radiator yet... just a test fire. Here's a 2.79MB vid of the virgin starting: (RIGHT CLICK & SAVE AS) http://nismopick.define-touge.net/files/240sx.mpg

Just gotta drop in the radiator & wa-la!

Great job Nismopick, pretty fast 9 days? And you only have to put the radiator in? It took me longer to do my motor swap in my Z. Of course, I didn't have much experience either. Anyway it sounds like a good old Nissan to me. Props on the successful rebuild bro'.

Ok Mr. Pick, while you were at work I went ahead and installed an L20b like I had suggested. Your bro will be so happy with that 94hp carbed engine. I'll put the KA to good use.

On that note, check out what I was working on last weekend. Its a rear sump SOHC version of the KA but it fits in the 620 truck great.

Single slammer KA = weak sauce untill it;s boosted. 9.5:1 copression = Torque ... add the boost and Gimme the power!!!! 450cc injectors, Manifod, GT28RS, DP, SAFCII and tunng. drool truck oh yesssssss

SOHC KA is not weak sauce unless you're just comparing it to an SR20DET which is not a good comparison. They are only 10hp less than the DOHC version and that's only for a very small portion of the rpm range.
The truck KA is rear sump from the factory so a 1998+ Frontier engine is hard to find. (dohc) 240SX engine is not worth modding.

This stock KA will blow away any highly modded L20b with sidedrafts

The truck is meant to be a reliable daily driver. It'll have good power and economy in that light truck. My friend already has an SR powered 510.

yeah ive been meanign into looking at that. My dad has an02 frontier work truck. its a 4cylinder KA. manual. but since he has all kinds of shenanegans in the back the truck is really really really "slugsih" so he wants me to give it some power. A motor swap is out of the question. (though RB25 would be sick but hell no not worth money time and effort) SR20 is a no no. so I was looking to boosting this KA. I pretty much got everithing down. the only thing I can think of is swaping it in with a rebuilt S13 KA swap the harness and everithing out. S13 KA harness, S13 KA motor and tranny, S13 KA ECU and boost that **** what would you guys think of this???

If you're dad is that type of person..I guess. If he trusts you to mess with him truck like that. I'm guessing there's no warranty b/c if there is kiss it goodbye. You could also just keep it NA (and reliable) and do little things like intake, exhaust, chip.

for hauling weight you want torque. I'd say he should just put up with the power it has.... slow down or sell the truck and get an NA V6 version

nah I sold my N/A VG years ago ($712+ shipping woohoo!) but yeah there is no warranty on the truck. and he paid 12K for it no down, and only 42000 miles in it at the time. My dad definetly trusts me with his stuff (he knows all the fab and work I did on my S13 and oves it) I already have an Intake Headers and Exhaust on it. but still OBD2 is alot of restrictions. so that is why I wanna boost it. =D noone would expect boost from it either.

sure, keep it to a smaller turbo... T28 and no intercooler. He'll have good boost at part throttle. That'll do good for his pulling power.

A sc might even be beneficial and easier to fab, less to go wrong, etc.
