As I've said before: READ... BOOKS.

You need to learn the hard basics of auto mechanics / engine work. Stripping down a motor is fun, and you learn a lot, but there is A LOT more to it than just loosening & tightening a bunch of nuts & bolts.

that's not what I do... I just tore down a turbo L28, bolted it back together with new paint and it fired right up! Engines are easy. (except for those stupid diesel cranks)

my advise is.... stay clean... get a parent to supervise you...
but how are you going to see if it runs well if you don't have a car to put it in? bench testing is pretty hard. and if it's free, it won't run.

at any rate, it will be fun and educational at least to take it apart. putting it together will be different, but you can take it apart and learn a bit.

get a life. i mean, books. if not lots of internet research and a knowledgeable guide would be VERY beneficial. you need to learn torque specs and how carefully tear an engine down without damaging anything and putting it back together is much harder. also a V8 like that is pushrod so its so simple it only covers about 70% of the technological advancements in place of even our **** over head cam motors and about 60% of dohc and then maybe 50-40 of what a modern motor is.

tons, you should seriously decide on ONE thing and get someone who knows what they're doing to help you.

Not trying to shoot you down, but you're really pissing off a lot of people here.

disassembling a motor will only teach you how to disassemble a motor.

Just tie that thing to a heavy chain and use it on a boat. They make good anchors.
