BMW 328i Wheel Bearing
BMW 328i Wheel Bearing
My friend has been looking at purchasing a BMW 328i lately, and one of the ones he's been looking at has the sound like a when a wheel bearing starts going back in the rear right tire I believe. He was asking around on bimmerforums and they were all saying you're better off having a shop do it. I was curious if anyone namely Nismopick, knows how big of a deal a wheel bearing is, or his suggestions on it?

Duowing, what year 328 is it? If it's 92-98 (the E36 body) it's not hard... I've done it. I don't think the E46 rear control arm is too much different, but it's just time consuming. Check out www.realoem.com ... tis a great schematics / diagrams web site for all BMW's.
EDIT...
Also, make sure it's the wheel bearing before ripping into it. If it's an auto, it should have an LSD rear end & they sometimes chatter (which could be confused w/ a bearing).

i checked bimmerforums out. most of the tech questions go something like this:
"my bmw is making some weird klunkitty klunk noises. i looked at the dashboard and there arent any warning lights on. how do i fix this????"
"ooohhh, i had a noise like that too. i took it to the dealership and handed them my wallet. 2 weeks later they called and said they needed more money, which i readily handed over. then after another week i got the car back and it didnt make that noise anymore!!!"
"oh sweet, thanks. i'll give that a try!!!"
"no problem. I DRIVE A BIMMER I DRIVE A BIMMER I DRIVE A BIMMER I DRIVE A BIMMER!!!!!!!"
"I DRIVE A BIMMER TOO!!!!!!"

Yeah he's been looking into the 92-98 328i's. He refuses to look at automatics as he wants a manual. We're not certain it's a wheel bearing, but it's a similar noise that has occurred on vans of ours, the noise really was noticeable when turning I believe right, otherwise you really wouldn't hear it.
