I own a 924 turbo... and aside from it's good looks & sick *** performance, it's a pricey biotch for parts. Maybe the 944 is a bit better, but Autozone / Checker / Napa... NO PARTS FOR THE 924... GOTTA GO TO THE DEALER.

swappage?

I think the real question here isn't if its expensive, but
if i should attempt a porsche into z31 tranny and engine swap.
It'd be kool to say ive gotta porsche engine in my car,the problem though is that it's a four cyclinder and only has 150Hp at the crank the car itself self weighs about 2500lbs compared to the 3500 of the z31.Any input on this one?

IMHO, true Porsche's have the engine in the rear. IMO, again,...the 944 is a POS. It's kinda the poor man's Porsche. If you want to get a Porsche then save your $ and buy a 911.

And still get torn up at the track by stg III Z's. It happened to a 911 turbo at Qualcomm.

The the guy driving the 911 apparently doesn't know an apex from an *******. Those 911's are quick out of the box. Depending on the year, mid 4's 0-60 and they handle very well.

The single most expensive repair on a 944 is the clutch. Mitchell labor guide calls for almost 13 hours in labor alone. Front engine/Rear Tranny set was a great idea, but it's gnarly to work on.

911 turbos are quick, don't get me wrong, but they're not as fast as you think. Most cars aren't when actually applied on the track....fast, but they're always suprised when they get beaten by a 15 yr old nissan. And an apex has nothing to do with drag....that's what qualcomm is.

Uhhh, Let me just say for the record... "What are you talking about?" You may have seen from some of my previous posts, that I have a 930S (911 Turbo Slant Nose). While it's not a drag car... it will kick the living crap out of my Z. I love my Z but damn! Now, my 930S isn't exactly stock, even when it was, it was brutally fast. I'm not here to talk trash about the Z in any way... I love Z's more than anything including my 150K Porsche but you have to give credit where credit is due. Trying to say a 911 Turbo isn't quick is like saying that the sun isn't hot. Of course there is always the fact that neither car was designed to be a 1/4 mile (or 1/8 Mile if you're talking Qualcomm). Drag racing is for one dimensional cars only. A real car can stop and take turns just as well as it accelerates. Both the Porsche and the Z accel in that regard. Like I always say... "Real Men Take Turns".

In 1987, that was THE fastest production car on the road. 186MPH bare bones stock in a four passenger car. Who say's Porsche can't do a V8?

sounds like a nice porsche, post pics. Btw, look up at my post right above your last one. The first line says, 911's are quick. I never doubted it. And yes, they're quick on a course, much more than a lot of Z32s, but in a straightline, the guy got beat and was dumbfounded. It was a funny story, just like when Charles beat the Pantera over and over and over again!

proof that porsche can do a v8 that sucker looks even bigger in person. when you get all the timing covers and belts and stuff off, and really look down into that engine bay, you wonder what kind of shoehorn they used to get it in there.
what a royal bitch to work on though.

As I've said before,....drag racing shouldn't be considered racing. It doesn't prove anything. I'll stick to my original statement in that the driver of the 911 didn't know what the hell he was doing. With evenly matched drivers,.....A 911 turbo will beat a stage III Z 24/7/365 in the straight line, autocross or roadcourse.
