Meh... it will take them 5 years to start drilling. So in 6-7 years when we finally see a benefit, it will lower the cost of gas from $7.50/gal to $7.00/gal.
EDIT:
We're stuck w/ high gas prices... the US Gov is never going to do anything to lower the price... look at what they are saying:
Conserve! Conserve! Conserve! Look for alternative energy! Global Warming!
Bringing gas prices down will only delay what they want.

meh. this is just a cycle, like has happened in the past. it might not drop a bunch anytime soon, but this surge will peter out eventually. the dollar rose and the euro dropped today. retail saw a good swing upward in may. the price of crude dropped too. the price of gas went up a bit, but it hasn't really kept pace with the price of crude in the last few days or so anyways. if it had, we'd be paying $5+ already.
like nismo said, drilling tomorrow would not do anything at the pumps. we should have started it years ago, but "oh the poor environment!!!". hindsight and such. we never needed to be dependent on foreign oil. we have enough in our borders for at LEAST 150 years.
bleh i'm out of energy for this crap.

i heard today that betweem alaska, rocky mountians, and florida coasts theres more than enough oil to make us completely independent from forien oil for about 80yrs, in those 80yrs we need to make the big 3 go completely alternative fuels and the japs will follow, but euros (except for mercades and VW)wont cause their snobby a$$ holes. but then we will be OK and 280zx2by2 will be president of the world
