Reno's Street Racing Sting
Reno's Street Racing Sting
Well for those of you who don't know what Hot August Nights is, It’s a collaboration of old classic cars from the 70's and older. It usually brings about 500,000 people to the Reno/Sparks area every year and with it brings a large community of testosterone driven American muscle. Every year the local PD is in charge of keeping street racing under control, however, this year the import community was the bigger threat.
Last weekend (07/30) there was an incredible turn out of people attending and participating in the local street races (120-175 cars, mine being one of them), after getting reported street racing calls, the PD dispatched a half a dozen officers to apprehend up. The succeeded in blocking in over 100 cars in two locations, and ended up writing 96 spectator violations, numerous curfew violations and didn't even catch a single person in the act of street racing (didn't catch me
thanks to two police scanners, we heard all of the calls, and were in the only group that didn't get busted)...the thing that kills me is that they wrote these violations to people who were standing around, and there hadn't even been a single race yet, they just assumed that there was street racing in that location...what were they spectating, the grass growing? What is so bad about a group of imports all sitting around in a parking lot, when all over town there was the same thing going on that involved domestics?? I think they were in charge of street racing, but decided to just bust the larger group to accumulate more money. Every ticket was $155.00, so lets do the math 155x96=$14,000 and some change....sounds like they knew what they were doing and had this whole thing schemed up before it even went down. F#$king bastards, I have about 20 friends who were involved w/ the bust and got written up, thank god we chose a little more of a discreet location, and heard the calls go out before we too became victims. This is why I strongly suggest investing in a quality dual-trunking scanner if you plan to do stupid **** like this
saved my *** this time....

In parts of CA, they will also write tickets for spectators for being accessories to the crime. Certainly makes a good deterrent, IMO. I no longer go, but I think I kinda grew out of it a few years ago anyways.
You know, I don't know if I'll ever out-grow the races on teh highway and such. I mean can I resist if some muffstain (mustang) tries to pass me on the freeway? But the meeting in the Walmart parking lot type thing is just too risky and it's a good way to get your car impounded.
Here where I'm at they just tell us to go home. They have never actually caught us racin.. so that's a good thing.. I do know one time that a cop came blarring past us after some ppl had raced.. but the ppl were back in the parking lot before the police came.. and once we saw them we moved to a different spot. There is one good thing about being in the biggest land wise city in the US.. we have lots o' spots to go and not get caught.. There has only been one time that I can think of in the past 5 years where there has been an actual ticket that was written .. and that's cause the id10t crashed in the woods and then abandoned his car.. we were just outside an old millitary base... OPPS!!

Yea, things used to be like that around here until stupid kids started doing destructive things like burnouts on grass, and breaking windows, then the cops came down on us pretty hard after that. They pretty much just tell us to leave now, but in peak months like this they really aim to bust our *****, i'm going back out tonight, lets just hope it isnt a repeat of last weeks scenereo.
Our hang outs usually happen on Saturdays here.. You guys might wanna try changing it up.. Ours use to be on Friday nights... but they started buggin us out too much and that's when we decided to change things up on them. Some places that we use to go to (and some we still do), turn off their lights in the parking lots to try and get us to leave. I don't think that most of the kids here get the picture. We haven't done anything destructive that I know of, but then again I haven't been out in about 3 weeks now.. so maybe it's changed.. doubt it. Good luck and hopefully they won't try and kick ya'll out or give anymore of them hellacious tickets.. I know I would fight that one with a passion infront of a judge..
