keyword "looks clean" i hate to the be the one to say this, but CHECK EVERY SQUARE INCH OF THE CAR, check ever nook and cranny, every bolt and screw, every possible way water could touch...there is no such thing as a rust free z, we all hate to admit it, but unless your car was in the garage from almost all its life or went through body restoration in the past three month's dont expect it to be a car ready to drop a motor in, also the 1 sq. inch in the passenger wheel well sounds like there is more rust to be found..

if you want it as a winter project i would suggest you strip off all of the old, paint gunk, oil....etc from under the car and strip the engine bay down and fix ALL the rust you can get to, you will save yourself alot of work down the road by fixing it now rather then waiting for it to get worse down the road..

Wahoo! You better be dropping an L28ET in there!!! No reason to do all that work, and still not have a turbo!

dude...
i went and saw it a week ago.... ITS CLEAN!!!!!! i mean MOTHER ****IN CLEAN!!!! the cleanest s30 ive ever seen with out a full resto. its a sick car. its freakin amazing. the onlt prob with it is the paint is lightly fading on the roof and hood. thats it. if it werent for that it would be just insane. trust me i know the ebay cars and the weary nesss. i drove my *** out there a while ago almost to iowa to see it. there is nothing to be weary about. and the guy is really cool, no shady vibe from him or anything.

i dotn know who ya all think i am but ive resto'd an s30 before :P . this one is insane. i know what im gonna do and have to do. and it isnt much. body wise. im gonna undercoat the guess under coat job (BTW he is a certified welder and made cross fram supports and capped the frame for strenght and replace dthe floor pans.. and did a really good job, and then undercoated it. in less than a year ago. i want to double undercoat it though to prevent rust from ever coming back on the frame at least for a ong time. and there was not sq. inch of rust. it was a rust color and started wiping of lol. there were no dents to be seen except the slight imperfections you see when you stand at the *** of the car and stare down the side and like, see the minor indentation the size of a quarter. and im thinking about finishing his chevy swap, otherwise i was gonna l28et it.

There's your prob... it's an S30. Oh... I joke I joke! I know whatcha meant. And you'll never hear the end of it from us if you do a SBC swap. L28ET or bust!

oh. and i think entropy said i wasnt ever gonna get another Z.... so this goes out to him.... SUCK IT!!!!!

OH BTW: the reason i want to finish up the chevy swap cuase he has the rebuilt and bored chevy 350 to 355 motor, with the mountas already made shorty headers and wired the car up for the chevy already. so it will all be drop in besides the driveshaft relengthening and echaust fab. all for like. 2500 or less. i think it just be a cheap and efficient way to get POWA

Hey, it's your car! Gotta do what will make you happy. It's just my opinion that the S30 & S130 should always have an inline 6. A carb'd SBC is bastardizing the Z, and an SR20 is ricey. L28ET.... just right.

DOHC is great technology, but you can get 400hp from the L28ET just as easy as an SR20... you have 2 more cylinders working for you

Congrats on the car. Looks like a clean shell from the pictures. Frame rails look good. Go with the Chevy swap. You're already half way there.

Nice purchase! Looks like you got a good deal. Thats cool that you went and looked at it first. I took a chance with the 240 (it was in New Mexico) but I lucked out- theres no rust on the frame rails and runs great (after carburetor adjustment...). Anyway have fun!

Good choice man....wasn't gonna say it before but I agree with Nismo that these cars have to have an in-line 6....a V8 takes away from the original character. They're not meant to be muscle cars.

yup.... i think im gonna flare the rear wells a bit and get a wale tale and a nice msa front end... besides that just strip the paint to bare metal primer re paint it blue and clear coat it... im thinking something along a deeper blue pearl sort of color... like subaru WRX but a little deeper tone. thats it for body... then new rims re undercoat the body so i can doulbe protect the thin *** frame rails. and find a dash... thats the only problem with the interior really. is the damn dash board. besides that.
i want an LSD rear end. the R200 is an LSD rear end right? and is it just a direct swap? cuase im gonna be hella dissappointed if i gotta start fabin **** up.

If you're gonna ***** it up by putting an American muscle car motor in it, at least do something original...

Put a 318 HEMI in it or something.

Not all R200s are LSD only the ones from the 300zx Turbo, it has to have a finned diff cover.

And NICE S30. I kind of want to pick one up, theres just nothing around here..

Sweet! I agree, if you go with the V8, gotta be a hemi!

Anyway, dashes are a problem with the old Zs....I think my had like 6 cracks in it. Your choices are forking out like $1,100 for an all new dash or $90 for a dash cover that looks just like the original. I chose option B.

Congrats man, on getting a 260z, and they are more rare to boot. And please don't v-8 it man. I still want a S30 someday, because I want the best of both worlds. He he. Anyway good luck on that sweet looking Z, and keep us updated man.

Congrats man. You got it cheap too. And its an early model. Welcome to the 260Z club Looks like a couple of those tranny's are T5's.

Sure the V8 may seem unethical, but once you're behind the wheel you're probably not going to feel that way anymore. I'm started buying stuff for my motor swap now. I'll be getting the motor itself early '07 It's NOT a V8 though. But it's still going to set me back enough that I'm probably going to have to miss MSA again

Oh and if you do decide to stick the L26 back in there I've got an entire engine worth of parts to sell. Including some 240Z roundtops
