well, who is (was) their competition?
With the 300zx they had to compete with the RX-7, the Supra, and the Vette. When it came out in 89-90 it blew the doors off everything else, only the redesigned RX-7, Supra and top model Vettes that came out a couple years latter AFTER they knew what to try to beat were in the same league. Now, the Z is still better than most if not all of its competition (price wise) i.e.RX-8, New Mustang... what else is there in the two door coupe division? There is no way it competes with the new vette (its less than 1/2 as much in price and nearly 1/2 in power). So for the money about 26k to start roughly 1/2 the cost of the 1996 z, its a pretty good deal.

I thought it was pretty representative.....all the 0-60 and ET times I've seen for the TT Z32 and 350Z are just a few tenths of a second different. That 350 in the second video must be an automatic or bad driving or something....

awsome, both my cars trampin everyone. Z32 and 260 FTW!!!! and it could very well be stock. teh carbbed Z's were MUCH faster than the EFI ones actually mostly due to emmmissions. the 260 may not have been stock but i dont think it had much on them. all those cars were still very quiet

performance is not the only thing i took into consideration when calling the z33 a step backwards. IMO, looks and quality suffered heavily as well. taking all factors into consideration, i would say it is a wash between the s30 and z32. in fact, i would have to say the z33 takes last place in my eyes, unless we consider the z31 2+2.
