High HP L28s

We are talking about nostalgia builds here, if someone is going to take the time and effort to make parts for an antiquated engine they are going to jack up the prices.
Look at some of those prices and you will see that over all 24k might be a bargain.

EDIT: Even the stuff sold on that site and others will have to be modified to get 400hp reliably.

lol, I would just build an sbc and pwn all. I could have a nicely sorted out race car with a built motor on the track driving for less money then some of these guys have in ONE race motor.

Im documenting my build and keeping track of all the $$ spent along the way so Ill know exactly how much is into my motor
ya but its still a chev
I build L's because I like them, not because there the cheapest
I couldnt ever own a V8 Z.
fast
cheap
reliable
you can only pick two

Sorry....but anybody can go the easy route, and put a V8 in a Z. To me, it loses it's nostalgia, and originality. When bastardized with a common V8, or any other for that matter.
Building an L, would be pretty cool. If I had no spending limit. I would be content, with just a little more than my Z came stock.

We are talking about pos 280zx's here for the most part... Any nostalgia that is still there is out weighed by the fact that these cars are over weight and powered by an engine design thats almost 5 decade old.
If we were talking low vin 240z's or 10th anniversaries or ZXR's then yeah keep with the antiquation. But we aren't.

I have never understood this concept...

And I don't care how rare the Z is. Or if it isn't really worth anything. To me, it has nothing to do with bastardizing a Z with a V8. Not my thing. Also there is a thread dedicated to Z people that like to install, and talk about V8s in another thread. Also Hybridz is geared more to that crowd, not here.

And that's why HBZ has how much more traffic then Zdriver?
If you take the time and do the swap yourself you will feel just as much of a "connection" to the V8 or whatever you swap in as long as you do it right and are happy with the work.

Then why do you drive a Z, dumbshit?
and I dont care much for swapping motors to other motors. Mainly because I like the L engine the most so far. If I had another fav I might consider swapping it but sense I don't I'm gonna try to build a better one!
Whats the harm in doing that? lol

there are some things that you just cant get on the cheap tho

Certain parts yes, you can't exactly just call up another person who races a datsun and ask if he has any used forged L28 cranks laying around, or a spare set of 88mm pistons.
#72
I just looked though the FSM and it says the sleeves in an L engine are only 4mm thick....(90mm outside diameter) So that would mean if your overbored to 89mm you would have a 1mm thick wall...
And this is common to do!? I think something is amiss here....
