I lived in Costa Rica for a few years & they had tons of cool Euro cars... Citrogen, Daewoo, Datsun... etc. The sweetest cars: Toyota Hilux which is a small 4 door diesel truck, and the Toyota Yaris which is smaller than the Echo. I actually had a Yaris rental car for a while & rallied the shiz out of it.

All the toyota pickups sold in the u.s. in the early to mid-70's (maybe later too) were Toyota Hilux'.

Ugly if I may say, especially compared to datsun pickups.

There have been rumors floating through the automotive press for a couple of years that Nissan was going to bring the Datsun name back to the US market as an entry level moniker like Toyota's "Scion" line. I have yet to see anything that would confirm this, but I have read it many times and I think it would be a great idea from a PR standpoint.

Notice that the "Nirvana" truck is the first generation frontier (2000 model year only in the US) not the second or current one. Also, they had the equivalent of the Infiniti M45 which is no longer available here, but is a bad ***, angry machine!

Oh god, I hope not! I wouldn't want the Datsun name to be associated with the "entry" level or aimed at the rice rocket generation! I actually like the fact that it's gone because it makes the car sound more exotic and "classic". The Z-car (followed by the 510) is the most signature car associated with the Datsun name. So unless they relabel the 350Z a "Datsun", it just wouldn't be right.

They should ax infiniti and bring Datsun back as the upper level Nissan cars Then people would stop associating Datsun with their damn pickup trucks. They made the Z car too you know

I'm more of a Datsun fan (old school) than a Nissan fan myself.
