1979 Datsun 280ZX 2.8l L6 Blue 5 Spd Manual 2+2 165k - $1150

Located in North Georgia but willing to meet.

This was project car for a while but as much as I’d love to keep it, I am moving soon. The car is overall in reasonably good condition for a car of this age. Pictures and workblog at the bottom of the ad.

Engine: Runs strong and revs nicely. Sounds and feels smooth. However, there is a minor issue where, especially when cold, the engine will bog a bit at low RPMs under throttle. It may just be a bad sensor, but it is not the AFM (which is an expensive part that was recently replaced) nor is it the coolant temp sensor. Above about 1500 RPMs, the engine revs smoothly and freely with normal power. New 6-1 pipe headers were just installed, along with a custom 2.5” exhaust system. The car sounds great even with a muffler, and it is not excessively loud. Performance is great. The old exhaust manifold is also included. New parts include spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor, ignition coil, coolant temp sensor, AFM, exhaust headers, exhaust piping and a muffler.

Transmission: No signs of issues here. The clutch bites strong, the gears engage easily and smoothly, and everything feels tight. Clutch feel is great in this car.

Suspension: Also in good condition. The shocks still perform great and the car handles very well. The springs are also stock. I had plans for a cheap coilover conversion with nicer 2.5” springs, but that never happened. But the car handles well as is. I have some spare urethane bushings to throw in as well.

Brakes: The rear rotors and pads were just replaced. The car stops well and the brakes modulate pretty well. It could use a bleed and some fresh brake fluid, but that’s an easy job.

Body: Surprisingly good condition for a 30+ year old Z car. It only has minimal rust, almost all of it in non-structural areas. The passenger side fender was replaced with a different-colored one after an impact. I still have the old one and it is included. The driver-side fender was also dented, but it has mostly been repaired. There is also some other minor body damage. Some minor body work and it will be like new, needing nothing but a re-spray.

Interior: Mostly stripped. The radio and other parts of the center console were removed (but included). The dash is still present and wrapped in black vinyl to cover the cracks beneath. Blower motor works great, but the A/C does not get cold. Probably just needs a recharge. Seats are black cloth from an Acura RSX, and they are really nice seats. 5 point racing harnesses are installed, but the regular seat belts can be used as well. The foam and other lining in the back have been removed. Ready to install a roll cage, maybe?

Overall, I’ve put a lot into this car, but plans have changed. Unfortunately, I won’t be driving much in the foreseeable future. Come take this Datsun by Nissan S130 Z off my hands. No title is included, but it many places (such as Georgia) a vehicle this old does not need a title. Car is currently registered in GA.

Thanks for the link!

Yeah, I've been a lurker on here since I got the car but never posted (Join Date: Sep 2012). Thanks to this forum for giving me plenty of helpful advice. Unfortunately I can't keep the car. I'm actually going to school at Yale in CT, but keeping a car costs way more than it's worth.

Update: SOLD.
