Rolling rear lip

Has anyone had any experience rolling their rear fender well lips? I'm debating on lowering my Z with TIEN S-Tech springs, but I'm worried about having clearance issues.

My advce is to install the ste-up you want; THEN if youo need to roll the fendesr any qualified bodyshop should be able to do it. Some brave souls DIY with a wooden baseball bat.

if you do, do it with a bat, make sure it is new with no flat spots.

um, no

Don't ghetto it with a bat, do it the professional way.
use a fender roller a torch and a rubber mallet. First jack up car on the side you are going to roll, remove the wheel from the fender you want to roll, attach the roller, heat up the fender (metal) with a torch, use the mallet to start the fold to at least past the stock 90 degree fold of the fender. Commence rolling!

And what happens when you torch paint? You get a new paint job. I don't think most people want to repaint the quarters / fenders just to roll the lip.

its ALOT smoother and alot more pro looking if you have a smooth tire or slicks to roll the bat on, plus you dont always need a huge lip, also not very many shop have the equipment to properly roll the fender..

Some people need pictures

I said heat up the paint, not melt it. Use a heat gun if that's easier. Thats the way they do it in a body shop so they DON'T have to repaint after they stretch the metal with the roller.

if i told you to heat up a pizza would you leave it in the oven till it lit on fire, use your head, don't take it to extremes then try to blame someone else.

its $250 for a cheap roller, its $50 for a good bat, the roller is more consistant, but the bat it just a alot easier to use, if you can find a shop that does it, i would highly recomend taking a look at their work before you have it done..

In that article they use a heat gun, not a torch... I'd love to see someone try to heat up painted metal so it will bend easily w/o burning it. Flame + paint = bad. If you disagree... go ahead and take a torch to your own car's paint & report back to me w/ the results.

the heat gun is to soften the paint enough so that it wont crack when the pressure is applied from the roller.

I'm Sorry

when i stated heat the metal, I meant as opposed to the plastic if there is any, and yes it's to soften the paint not to soften the metal, that would be silly. Have you ever tried to use a nylon brush on your car at the car wash after its been in the hot summer sun, it will leave streaks, that is how hot you want to get the paint, about 150-160 degrees to make it soft so it wont crack or pull away from the metal when you bend it. You can rent the roller if you find a body shop that will let you.
