Using used engine .. Best way to chain the engine?

What is the best way to chain the engine to drop it in? I just bought a used engine with 54000 on it and i don't know what hook the chains on. Would it damage anything to hook up on the plenum? I'm using a cherry picker hoist to drop it in. Any ideas would be great. Thanks

There are two common methods - one uses the bolts that go into the sides of the plenum (they originally hold a bracket in place), an alternative is to use a top plenum bolt and one of the top trans bolt holes.

Best method is with the RameyZ engine sling... uses top plenum bolts.

No. But make sure you're not trying to lift the engine via loose bolts... THAT could do something.

Didn't you say use a top bolt? how could i use one if it wasn't loose, or do you mean just don't have it too loose?

you take the bolt out, and tighten it down on a chain link with one or a few good washers.

I just did this last week, my hook up worked pretty well.

On the driver side of the motor I had a singer on the side where the brake booster vacuum line goes into and on the passenger side i had the slinger on top of the plenum towards the back where its kind of just a cap screwed into the plenum behind the balance bar.

I tried the brackets and it wound up snapping off the motor.

I also tried the top plenum bolts but didnt feel safe at all with them.
