Send them somewhere or replace them - home made rebuilds RARELY work out well. And the turbos were the same in 90 as well.

That's not from balance problems....that's from crap in the intake....like a screw, bolt, nut, etc. Nevertheless....have it professionally done.

There is a place on ebay that sells kits for all turbos. I bought one for my t3 for $45. I havn't done it yet but the parts seem to be high quality. I have done it before. I work in a machine shop and have all the right tools. You should be most careful to get it right. The hardest thing is getting it out and back in the car I think. Go to ebay motors and look for tubosrus. They also sell impellers, other parts, and the guy is most helpful and prompt with questions.

I couldn't find a good picture fast enough But it is still scary. Plus I'd hope none of us have real pics of what happens.

if you have to ask that...

... then I have no choice but to doubt this.

And, giving you the benefit of the doubt, being a professional auto tech doesn't automatically qualify you to rebuild a turbo. That's like assuming that, because you're a professional auto tech, you can rebuild an engine or transmission... some things are a little more complicated and meticulous than replacing broken parts on a car.

Sorry to doubt your abilities, but a turbo spins at over 200,000rpm... you mess something up, it can be catastrophic.

You can do it!

Look at this and decide if you want to try it. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/T3-T4...22408198QQrdZ1

btw, look at the responses to this thread...
http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg...msg_id=2005843

Notice how not a single person recommended rebuilding the stock turbos.

This thread is getting a little sideways

So how did we get from a simple $90 R&R on a stock na to a $2000 500 hp?

My points is that there's a reason no one recommends rebuilding them, rebuilds are rarely as reliable as they should be. The people who recommended stock-level replacement recommended getting stock turbos with new CHRAs from Z1.

To Zlover4life just a question what do you do for a living. As for me I graduated top in my class from Wyotech I majored in chassis fab and high performance engines and currently work as a BMW tech so if I wanted your two cents on what I should do I would have asked for it I simply asked where was a good place to get the kit.

chassis, and high performance engines... RIGHT!!!! what could you do at BMW for that and first off... you dont MAJOR in studies for trade schools you get certified, and before any company will accept you you have to usually be certified in ALL basics of cars (electronics, airconditioong, drivetrain, etc.) before they will give any one a job any where...
