Transmission/Clutch Problems
Transmission/Clutch Problems
I have some troubling issues with my Z.
I own a 94 300zx NA, standard transmission, I had a new clutch put in around late January, a stock aftermarket, I broke it in almost a month later of just daily driving, and just recently, after regretedly letting a friend drive my car, my Z came back to me with a heavy rattle/clunking when engaging gears, and the clutch pedal vibrates when depressed in gear. I don't know how to describe other than it feels like the clutch just grabs the transmission without slipping, but in the process, heavily shakes it.
It only violently shakes when shifting in lower rpms in first and second gears under daily traffic conditions, but it appears to engage like it should without the violent shakes if I were to shift faster and at 4500 rpms or higher.
I'm not sure what to assume here, It could be the worse, and say the transmission is going, but I got some feedback that it could be the dampening springs on the clutch itself. I just would like some advice and feedback to try to troubleshoot this problem before it goes from worse to worst. Not only is this my Z! its my daily driver.
Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated, thanks.

any thoughts or suggestions? I might just end up having my tranny rebuilt, and installing a more hard hitting clutch.
If I were to get my transmission rebuilt, would it be possible to change the gears for a lower gear ratio, ie - acceleration > top speed.
as for the clutch, I was thinking of Centerforce Dual Friction, but Ive been hearing theyre no so good, so I also had ACT in mind. http://www.courtesyparts.com/act/index.html
any feedback greatly appreciated

who installed the clutch?
Take it back to the shop and ask them to look at it.
If you did it then you're gonna hafta take it apart and take a look. It's either the springs, or possibly a chunk of the clutch came off and is causing some interference between the flywheel and the rest of the clutch. Check your tranny fluid. Could be someone forgot to refill it? just an idea.
