Short Shifter

I'm on ebay. Great site. I see advertised short shifters. They look pretty bare bones. Are there any linkages or connectors or anything else you need for these to work? I've been told there are in other cars and I should make sure about this before buying. Also, how do you change the little blurb under your user name? I don't want to be Registered User anymore. :headspin:

That looks pretty complete. Here's the kit at Z1.

http://z1motorsports.com/product_inf...roducts_id=132

You may want to consider replacing the bushing that goes through the round ball end, though. My was slightly worn and after I added the SSK, mine buzzed until I replace that bushing. You can nomally use the Nissan busing with is only a buck or two. I believe it will replace the two smaller pieces of plastic shown.

Now you will have a surprise in store for you if you haven't done one of these on a Z32. You may want to do some research on the process. You have to be a contortionist if you do it from the top, not to mention that you have to remove much of the center console.

If you want to drop the h-pipe and the drive shaft, it is much easier if you have bottom access, plus you can tighten the lower bolt much easier.

Others may have some opinion regarding the all aluminum version...

Courtesy Parts sells one also. That's what I have. It comes with the bushings. You can still use the OEM gearshift with it also. I actually think that the quality of it surpassed that of the OEM unit.

I'm convinced the $40-$60 short shifter on ebay is the same as the $150 one on Z1 and Courtesyparts. I bought the ebay one and it looks identical to the pictures on both the Z1 and Courtesyparts websites.

Help me out with all this talk about the bushings. The shifter came with plastic or nylon bushings. Are you saying that the stock bushings from Nissan are better? Should I use stock replacement bushings instead of the nylon ones that come with the short shifter?

I have to have all my parts ready before I take my console apart. I have to drive my car so I can't wait and order bushings half way through the job.

Also, I found a write up on how to replace the bushings on twinturbo.net. Are these instructions pretty much all I need to follow to install the short throw shifter?

Anybody know of a good (complete) writeup on this?

Thanks...

Should have bought one of mine instead. Ebay ones are junk. You'll get what you paid for. Be prepared for rattles and bad shifter bushings. And some extra vibration.

There are a number of write ups that help you replace it from the top. You WILL bang up your knuckles. If you have time and a lift, you can get to it much easier from the bottom, but you will have to remove the h-pipe and the drive shaft.
