plz help.. tickin on start up
Hey,
Ok i have my car in a storage place and havnt started it in about a month. So i strted it today( just turned it on and dont rev it), and well it was makin this clickin sound. When the temp gauge went to almost warm the clickin was wost and then a weird thumpin sound started happenin.
The other thing is my turbo timer that was light up but there was no display on it. So when i tried to turn off the car it just keeped goin/ cause i couldnt even turn off the timer . So i had to maunally take off the battie cables.
The question is : Would it be a lifter that meeds oil or something worse? Could i take out the spark plug and pour in some oil so the cylinders would get some oil?
Plz help.....

First where were the noises comin from. Like the front the motor, back of it. Out the exhaust. What? We need a bit more information to give you better guidance.
The other thing is that you shouldnt disconnect the battery terminals o a Z32 with it on. Unless u feel like having electrical problems. The Z cars do not tend to like it, and it could potenially harm some sensors or components If this happens next time, either pull the fuel pump relay, pinch off the PCV hose, or try to get the turbo timer turned off.
Why couldnt you turn the timer's power off? And why did u have it on, if all you did was crank it up and let it idle. Then you didnt need it activated anyway.
The thumpin noise you heard could have been anything, I know if the spark plugs foul out. I will do that. It almost sounds like it has a massive cam in it. The ticking could be the VTC gears, cams, anything. What oil filter are you running? The nissan filters have little check valves in them, I knom my motor ticked loud when i was running a K&N filter. And it didn't have the little check valve.
The ticking could be a relay not working right..working over time actually.
The only way to really help you is to have some more information and/or descriptions of the cars symptoms.
Sorry! But good luck

Did the check engine light come on? If so, then check for fault codes. If it's the sound I'm thinking of, then it's the sound of the car running on 5 cylinders. Could be a fouled plug or maybe a fuel injector. If it was warm, I would've given it a bit of gas to see what happened.
Don't remove a plug and add oil.....that's not where the oil goes....ever.

Ok well the sound was comin from the middle through the back off the left side of the engine. It sounded like the injectors were bad but it idled fine and there was no weird exhuast sound. So i dont think that would be it.
And as for the timer, it comes on everytime i turn on the car, But this time it turned on with out any dislay ( the screen was just blue). I tryed to turn it off but none of the buttons worked. And i couldnt unplug it cause the wires came from inside the box and went through the box under the cd. The only way i could have turned it off was through the battiery.
Is there anyway to disconnect it the timer? I didnt install it.
No the check engine light didnt come on. The exhaust was white but i just thought it was white cause it was cold outside and the engine.

For this, the best thing to do is to get the engine warmed up, add some kind of engine flush/cleaner/conditioner (Marvel Mystery Oil works well, follow directions) and then change your oil. This will aleviate some sticky lifter problems.
Like 91 said, don't pour anything down your sparkplug holes. Have you heard of hydraulic lock?
The other possibility could be noisy injectors. Two of mine are pretty noisy when cold and still noisy after warm-up.
A friend of mine told me that you can replace a quart of oil with a quart of ATF and drive the car for a short period of time (5-15 miles), but don't drive it hard. I thought he was crazy, so I asked pops and he said that he used to do that when he was a mechanic years ago and it worked great. I think I'm going to try that on Amy's car since we're selling it and it has a really loud couple of lifters. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll try it on Saturday. I've heard not to use mystery oil on higher mileage engines because it's too thick (doesn't really mean anything to me). Of course we had that long discussion about Sea Foam also.

Started the Z again today and the tickin was still there so i left it on for about 30min. tickin got alittle better but the knockin sound from the back of the engine was still there.
I just picked up some sea foam - guy at ato zone said it might help. Ill dump some in the gas tank to see if it helps.

Do a search on Sea Foam. We had a long discussion about it. There are several ways to add it. Through the intake, oil or fuel. I tried all 3 and didn't really notice a difference, but that really mean anything. May be worth a shot.
I added the ATF to Amy's car tonight and drove it for about 10 minutes. Didn't notice a difference. It didn't blow up, so that's a good thing. I'm driving it to Mom & Dad's tomorrow to change the oil since my car is occupying my jack stands.
It rained like hell all day today and I was driving in an area that I wasn't real familiar with. I was concentrating on the sounds from the engine and not really paying attention to the road. I almost drove her car into a dip in the road that was full of water. Looked like a damn lake in the middle of the road. That wouldn't have been good. I'm thinking I would've been sleeping on the couch for a while.
