Oil Pressure Question`
I have a '90 TT and want to know some info about oil pressure. This is my first turbo model vehicle, so I am learning as I go. Ocassionally, the oil pressure will read very low (scarily close to zero). After the engine warms up it will climb up to about 60 psi. It will still fluctuate almost directly proportional to the amount of boost.
Does this seem normal? Is there something mechanical that needs attention? I just purchased the car and am trying to figure out what makes it tick. It runs very strong, and has been evaluated by the dealer. The dealer did not point out anything in reference to oil pressure.
Thanks in advance..........JB

Re: Oil Pressure Question`
The oil pressure is determined by the RPM's of the engine, not the boost. The higher the RPM's, the more pressure.
Low oil pressure could indicate cruddy oil, clogged or cruddy drain port (from top of engine back to oil pan), or a weak oil pump. However, oil pumps usually go out all at once.
I use Mobil1 in my Z, but any good Synthetic like Castrol should flow better than conventional oil. It's worth the extra $$ for your baby!
