My weekend

All in all, it wasn't that bad. We didn't break anything. There were only a couple things we didn't get done. 1 was the SPL clutch line. We found a minor leak in the slave cylinder, so I'll get a rebuild kit and do it all at once. The urethane tranny mount from SPL did not fit well at all. Very poor design. I'll be returning it. Everything else fit together well. The downpipes and midpipes from Specialty Z fit perfectly. I couldn't be happier. They bolted right up...no swearing at all. The old clutch and flywheel were hammered, so installing the new ones is a huge improvement. I changed the tranny and diff oil over to Redline MT90 in the tranny and 75w90 in the diff. The short shifter is sweet. The throw from 1st to 2nd is less than 3"! The quality of the short shifter is very good. It looks luch more study than the factory one. Plus, the factory gear shift **** can be reinstalled with the short shifter (same threads). When I reassembled the center console, I tightened everything up real nice and used some double stick tape
between the panel contact points. All of the squeaks I had in that area have been eliminated!!!
I found a couple of somewhat concerning things when removing the tranny and the exhaust system....of the 8 bolts that hold the tranny/bellhousing to the back of the engine, 3 were missing and 3 were only hand tight. Gee, I wonder if that was causing my 5th gear vibration. It did make it easier to get it out of the car. When the clutch was replaced prior to me purchasing the car, it appears that only the driven disk was replaced and not the pressure plate. again. 2 of the 4 bolts that held the driver side turbo on were also missing. cubed. There was a very thick grease used on the input shaft on and around the throw-out bearing, fork and pivot ball. It caused the fork to bind up. I never noticed how hard my clutch pedal was before. I had gotten so used to it. Whoever did the work on this car before I bought it apparently didn't have a clue about what they were doing. Another reason why I don't like anyone else working on this thing.
1st drive.... Success!!
The clutch is lighter and super smooth. The short shifter feels great. The exhaust note is completely different. It has a significantly deeper tone at idle and throughtout the RPM band. Not loud, but it sounds mean. I definitely feel a difference in the seat of my pants when I hammer the throttle. Worth the time and $. Now, with anyluck, it'll pass smog with new O2 sensors and catalytic converters. The old ones looked fine. I was hoping they'd look all melted inside. Oh well. I'm crossing my fingers. With any luck I can try to have it done today.

Um, no....
It'll be a cold day in hell before I would consider that.
I had one hippie, stoner, a-hole ask if my car was for sale today. Even if it was, I wouldn't sell it to him.
I can't emphasize enough how cool this thing sounds now. For you TT owners out there, when you change your clutch next time, I strongly recommend you get a set of downpipes and midpipes from Specialty Z and put them on. You'll be happy you did.
