mid rev knock

This is weird and I have had it since I bought my car. there is a tapping or knocking only when I am in the 3500 - 4500 RPMs. That is the only time. I have posted on tt.net before in the past and was told to change spark plugs and the timing might be off. I changed the plugs and tweaked with the timing and still there. Anyone have any other ideas. I also heard the VTCs could be going but the engine would probably run like **** but it doesnt, and I really see no power loss or anything. Thanks

hey, have you checked the air/fuel ratio yet. you could be running very lean. my z popped and made wierd noises at about 2500-3900 range. i found out i was at a 17/1 ratio which is deadly to a z engine. i used a fuel pressure regulater from stillen and that part alone put my ratio down to a performance enhancing 12.5/1. on the dyno i gained 17 pounds of torque and 8 h.p. to the floor..............YES!!!!!
