I broke something...

I dont know what it is and I cant find it.

Its connected to the bottom of the shifter and it looks like it might be connected to the bracket that connects to the transmission.

Whilst pulling out the engine I forgot the bracket that was connected to the transmission, not the part that shifts the part thats v shaped and has four 12mm bolts, 2 on each side.

Theres a rubber boot and then above that (or under it if youre looking at it from under the car) theres another part, rubber and i broke it on both sides.

Im going to probably pull it out tomorrow but if anyone knows what it is id appreciate it.

Ill post pictures when I pull it out.

I found a picture, it looks like it may be the dust boot. It seems like a pretty hard rubber piece though.

Is there a rubber boot on the bottom of the holder bracket?

If it's a hard rubber piece, it's probably the piece that the shifter itself bolts to in the bracket. I had one break on me while I was driving - not a fun experience.

yeah it looks like its that piece in the middle that goes wheel wheel and not engine to exhaust.

its definitely hard rubber. I found a diagram for the shifter components but it didnt really help me out.

Im gonna pull it tomorrow but it looks like thats it.

thanks

The horizontal rubber piece acts as a brace to allow the shifter to pivot.

If you can't get a new bracket assembly fast enough, my temporary fix was to take a piece of 1/4" sheet metal and bolt it across the bracket in its place. Worked just as well, side-effect being that the shifting was rougher (the rubber piece that you broke helps soften the shifting).

My shiftings always been shitty and sloppy, so it was probably a mater of time before it broke, so im kind of glad i broke it or I would have never looked into it and probably broke it on the road like you.

I bolted a piece of metal into it and kind of stabilized the broken rubber part by cutting it down. It actually feels better, its a good temp fix til i get it on the road and what not. My dust boots are all beat up too, so ill do it all at the same time.

Its fixed for now, but thanks for the link.

I dont know if id want to spend 200 bucks on a 40 dollar bracket though but i guess its something to look into. I like the way the bracket that hooks to the transmission is set up.
