Heya! New Here! Hello! Few questions..
Hey all...
New to this particular forum, but i can be found lurking about in the z32.org, and zcar.com forums...
As my name suggest, i currently drive a Mitsubishi Eclipse..and am very unhappy with the power it puts out (i only have the 140 hp GS model)..
I found out about the 300zx through my brother who has religiously been reading and studying the Stillen Catalogue Since 2000 = )
Anyways, such a wicked car...went to my local Nissan dealer who happened to be stocking a 1990 300zx n/a...5 spd, 92,000 miles..pearl white...i absolutely loved it, took it for a test drive...and thought it was the best thing since sliced bread....the only problem was their asking price of $10,000 ....ugh...they didnt want to budge AT ALL...those punks...thats why its been sitting there for a month or so now...hmmph...so anyways...decided to trek out and find a 300zx that wasn't from a dealer, but in fact..a local party. So far i havent come across THAT z that i want, but hope to soon. Im also trying to be smart and save up and put away about $2,500 for repairs, once i get the Z...cos you never know what can go wrong, right? I know i can get $8900-9200 for my 98 mitsu eclipse...I was looking at 90-91 300zx's...all which range from $4000-9000...say i found a 300zx for about , oh..$6000 with about 110,00 miles on it..clean, no damage..etc....should i take that 5K i had in reserve and just start rebuilding the engine and tranny? or just do a comprehensive tune-up and keep that money in reserve as i go along??
Also, once I get the Z, i have intentions of doing some exterior changes....for one, I absolutely love the look of the J-spec '99 Fairlady Z front fascia...I would LOVE to have that on the front of my Z...Do you guys think its worth the $865 or however much it is? Also, do you think that strictlyz.com does painting for those pieces as well?
Another question is...do you think that since this 90 or 91 Z will be 12 or 13 years old, it will need a new paintjob? If so, how much will that cost for a decent one? I've been told to stay far, far away from maaco...does anyone here actually have GOOD experience with them??
And finally...i LOVE those Fairlady Z tail-lights as well...theyre not extremely rare or hard to come across, are they? I know strictly-Z sells them...but will they still be there in a couple of months if i had to wait that long? same for that J-spec fascia....
Well...sorry for my rant guys..but i hope you all can help....
Nice to see such an organized and informative bunch around here!!

Re: Heya! New Here! Hello! Few questions..
Welcome,
I can answer to the MAACO question, stay away!! I actually worked for them for a month before I couldn't stand it anymore and quit. At least around here they do pretty shabby work.
Don't be fooled by their $249 or whatever they are charging these days for their "Presidential Service" it won't last. If you had any rust it will be a quick, and I do mean quick sand of the area and rust will be painted over just to resurface again down the road. They used the cheapest supplies they could get to save money so you know for the price the paint will be a low quality.
My advice is save the extra cash and get it done right the first time. Subsequent re-paints after a quality job is done are so much easier and cheaper!
Even with a recommended shop be careful, make sure that you go over the car with the estimator and talk about all the little nicks, scratches, rust and door dings etc that you DO NOT want to be there afterwards and make sure that is written on the estimate. The last thing you want is to get your nice new painted car back with rock chips and door dings still intact staring at you from under the new paint.
Have fun!

Re: Heya! New Here! Hello! Few questions..
I will probably have to agree with uztv about saving a little more money and getting a GOOD paint job. But all I've heard around my area is good things about Maaco. Maybe it's just around my Maaco, I don't know. You just need to be specific about what you want and what you don't want them to do so if they mess up they can fix it. I haven't had anything painted by Maaco, thats just what people have told me about them. Good luck on finding the Z. I'm also in the process of looking for a Z32.
