Just bought a used '90 300zx and somehow my alarm got set. I opened the door and viola the alarm went off and locked the starter apparently. I'm guessing it's the stock Nissan alarm as far as I can tell. Could anybody give me some idea as to how the stock alarm works and perhaps how to disarm it? I can't figure out the trick if there is one.

I'm not sure if the Z32 alarm is like the Z31, but in my 85, there's a problem with the time control unit, and I have to unlock, then lock, then unlock the *driver's* side door to turn off the alarm. It doesn't cancel the first time like it's supposed to. But to turn it off if it's going off, you just have to close all the doors, hood, hatch etc and lock the driver's side door with the key. That's how mine works, maybe yours is the same?

Thanks - I'll give those another shot and see. I tried relocking it with the key and then unlocking it, but it keeps blaring. I have a fob, but it really doesn't seem to do much either. I stopped and bought a new battery for it today, but that didn't seem to help either. I didn't try the unlock -> lock -> unlock trick though. Would pulling the master fuse for the alarm have any effect or should I just pull the battery cable and have it towed to the dealer? <sigh> I can't have it go off many more times trying to figure it out unfortunately since I am starting to really bother my neighbors and I hate to be a pain to them.

are you sure there is not TWO different alarms on your Z?
when i bought mine, there was TWO differnt ones, and they would keep messing up together and my alarm would just go off no matter what if i opend it. i had to have the aftermarket one removed, and now it works fine.
