Gas Pedal Stop

Is there a purpose for the black plastic piece underneath the gas pedal? I took it off and the gas pedal goes farther down to the floor. I put it back on because I wasn't sure if it was a safety thing, or just some kind of limiter.

Would it be safe to take it off? My guess is if the pedal can travel further than I will have more power.

Any ideas?

Thanks

You will not have more power. The furthest the pedal can travel is to open the butterfly valves on the throttle bodies completely, and this can be done with that piece in place (and can be confirmed by an AFC or AVC-R boost controller that monitors throttle position).
