Grinding gears?

hey guys first off im new to the z world i just got a 91 300zx n/a from a trade drives good except for the occational grind going from 3rd to 4th and from 5th to 4th. this doesnt happen everytime i shift but mainly when i am shifting through those areas at higher rpms when im just cruising its fine but when i hit it a little bit harder it will grind. i hop this isnt as bad as im thinking it is any help would be great thanks

Synchros? clutch? There are old threads on it if you search "Synchros" or "grinding gears"

It's a chronic problem on earlier Z32's. A 94+ transmission is the only way to remedy the problem... 97+ JSpec transmission (final revision) would be even better.

In the mean time, try Redline MT-90 or MT-L gear lube.

alright thanks thats what i figured but like i said its really not bad right now so for now ill try the gear lube stuff and see what it does thanks i dont have the money to do a trans anyway haha

How hard is it to change the tans fluid and stuff ive never done it so i really dont know what to do is there a write up on how to do it that im missing? thanks

Use a 1/2" breaker bar to remove the plugs on the bottom and passenger's side of the transmission, let drain. Replace plug on bottom and add fluid (via pump or long hose and gravity feed through the engine bay) until it starts dribbling out of the side hole, replace side plug. Done.

And use gloves. Gear lube smells BAD.
