Emission's Test

Hello All,
I Failed My Emission's Test And I Still Have To Get Tested Again. Anyone Know Of Any Tricks Or Inexpensive Ways To Lower The Levels Of Vehicle Emissions So That I Can Pass The Test? Just To Buy Me Some Time Till I Get Money For A Tune Up. Thanks.

i reccommend you not try any of this. bad idea. just go to the parts store and get some of that GUARANTEED TO PASS stuff in the blue bottle and do what the label says. and that hose thing from TT.net looks promising, worth a shot anyways.

yep... disconnecting that hose will help a little

also, if you're going as far as to mess with your fuel, add a little "Heet" (it might be spelled properly, but I think it's spelled that way). Don't boost too hard on it though, as it is basically a mixture that'll lower your octane to help everything burn off easier.

I thought alcohol did the opposite of promote detonation. That is after all why they use it in drag racing. Cause gasonline will just preignite and put a hole through a piston. Alcohol is less combustible than alchol. Adding it to your gasoline raises the octane rating thus decreasing the probablity of detonation.

If you pick up a bottle of that "Gauranteed to Pass" stuff and read it, you will find out that it is nothing more than expensive injector cleaner...

And bottled injector cleaner is more of a maintanence item then a repair item. It usually wont clear an injector thats badly blocked.

... you're right, it was somewhat of a typo/lost-train-of-thought on my part. I was going to mention something related to its alcohol content, then I changed the statement to mention that it can promote detonation and I simply forgot to change the alcohol part.

Here's a crazy idea.....why don't you find the actual problem and fix it instead of trying to half-*** it.

It failed smog because it isn't running right. Find what is making it not run right and fix that. Then it will pass smog and run better.

Call me crazy.

everyone has been so helpful except for this smart a$$!

I originally and specifically asked: Anyone Know Of Any Tricks Or Inexpensive Ways To Lower The Levels Of Vehicle Emissions So That I Can Pass The Test? Just To Buy Me Some Time Till I Get Money For A Tune Up. Thanks.

I know what i should do. I'm just really strap for cash right now and the deadline for my emissions test is coming up. hence, the reason for my post. Thanks anyway.

hey, chill out on 91zxtt. i agree with what he posted. that is by far the gest plan of action. he wasnt being a smart ***, just telling the truth. if you cant deal with that then its your problem. not a good idea to talk trash about someone who has 1000 times the posts you do.

hey entropy and rod, why are you guys talkin trash? and why the hell are you guys pissed off??? wtf? i am not the one to talk trash. i first of all, thanked everyone for helping. i'm very appreciative of everyone and the knowledge they possess. newbie or not, no one should try to be a smart ***. i felt that 91zxtt was being very sarcastic in his post and that wasn't called for. i'm a student that's barely making ends meat. i know how to go about the situation the expensive way, all i asked was if anyone knew of an inexpensive way for the time being. is that so hard to understand? i really enjoy zdriver and think it's the best. the people here are very knowledgable bout Z's. so if i offended anyone, i didn't mean too. Entropy and Rod, don't take anything personal. i'm not here to be a pain or to **** yall off. Happy drivin'.

Welcome to ZDriver There are very few people here who are asses on a regular basis. And even then, its usually only sarcasm. The thing with forums is you have to earn respect. And, unfortunately, that usually only comes with time. Some people frown upon half assing something. That's why you got the "DO it right" response. You'll quickly learn who's going to give you those kinds of responses, who's going to help you, and who's just going to tell you what you want to hear (whether it helps you or not). There's a lot of different personalities on here, and, as much as you may not like some of them now, they'll all eventually grow on you. I'm sure those guys were just poking fun with ya. It's nothing personal. ZDriver, is IMO, one of the best forums on the web. And hands down the best Z sight. It's not always the most technical, but the people here are great. So again, welcome to ZDriver and I hope we'll have you for a while. Enjoy your Z.

91zxtt is not the kind of guy thats going to be a smartass just for the sake of being a smartass. i agree with his suggestion as the best course of action. dont get pissed when someone tells you to do something right instead of half assed. who knows, your problem could be something simple and cheap. i understand that time and money are limiting factors, but half assing will ALWAYS come back to bite you in the ***, and usually cost more in the long run. just chill out and dont get offended over nothing. get to know the people on this site and you'll see that its one of the best communies as far as forums on ANY topic are concerned.

BTW to let you in on something.
If you'd have done a bit of searching, 91zxtt had a bit of a hard time fixing an emission problem of his own some time ago.
Since this is an emissions question and the combo of your newness + not searching, i totally see where he's coming from. sorry
But i 3rd on 91zxtt's suggestion.

I should note that I wasn't referring to 91zxtt when I said "there are a few people who are asses on a regular bases. After re reading my post today I realize it sounded that way. Thats not what I was getting at. That was just a general warning statement not to get too uptight about what people say on here.

So like everyone else has already written... I wasn't piised off. I was just trying to give some freindly advice and warning you not to start going off on people just for answering your question in a way you may not like. RELAX.......... Jeez. Yeah, there are a few guys around here that will tear you up for sure, I'm not one of them... I might zing you with sarcasm from time to time, but that's about it. As for your original question... It was very vague. Why did it fail? NOX too high? Co2, Hydrocarbons? Why did it fail? Nobody can really help you without knowing that. Also, just becuase it failed doesn't automatically mean it's going to cost a thousand dollars to fix. It could be something really small... has anyone told you at all what the problem is?

Rod.

Thanks for the support guys.....
For the record, I wasn't being sarcastic in an attempt to **** anyone off. I guess I left off the proper smiley to indicate this. Shame on me. However, since you flew off the handle, now I do get tod irect some sarcasm at you.

As Rizz said, I know a thing or two when it comes to failing a smog test and doing the right work to get it to pass. I'm a firm believer in doing the job right the first time; which apparently you don't quite understand yet. I was a starving student at one point in my life, so I didn't buy a Z32 until I graduated and could afford it. If you're looking for an in-expensive solution, then sell your Z and buy a Honda. You'll probably make some $ on this deal.

If you really just want it to pass and you don't care about being able to enjoy your car for many years to come, then go ahead and do what others have suggested. Just don't come crying to me when have to replace the engine in a couple years. It's your call noob.

SORRY GUYS IT TOOK SO LONG FOR ME TO GET BACK. SOME IDIOT DRUNK DRIVER JUST SMASHED THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE OF MY Z, AND I WAS PARKED. TALK ABOUT GETTING THE WORSE LUCK POSSIBLE. IMAGINE WALKING OUT OF A FRIENDS HOUSE AND GOING TOWARDS YOUR Z AND FINDING IT WRECKED. THAT SUCKS ***! IT WAS A HIT AND RUN.

MY TEST RESULTS FOR THE PREVIOUS EMISSIONS TEST IS IN THE CAR AND IT'S AT THE SHOP NOW. BUT I THINK THE LEVELS WERE HIGH ON CARBON MONOXIDE AND HYDROS. I GET BACK IN DETAIL LATER ROD.

HEY HI TECH REDNECK, I GOT NOTHING AGAINST U OKAY. I DON'T DOUBT YOUR KNOWLEDGE. THERE'S NO NEED FOR ALL THAT SMACK TALK. ALL I'M SAYING IS, "TRY AND UNDERSTAND FOR A BROTHA." I'M ALL ABOUT DOIN IT THE RIGHT WAY. SINCE THE DEADLINE WAS LIKE IN A WEEK, I ASKED FOR SOMETHING QUICK AND LEAST EXPENSIVE FOR THE TEST. AFTER THE TEST, I WOULD GET IT FIXED PROPERLY. I GUESSED WE JUST HAD A BAD START. I HAVE BIGGER ISSUES TO DEAL WITH NOW. BUT THANKS. C'MON MAN, A HONDA??? LOL. THAT WAS FUNNY THOUGH.

okayyyyyyy someone likes to make posts hard to read in caps. Sorry about your car and all. That really sucks. But seperate from that issue I would say this.

Your car failed emmisions for a reason. Any cheap alternative or shortcut will only prolong an issue your car is currently experiencing. Wether you wish to keep it or not. I strongly suggest fixing the problem rather than rig something to escape emissions. These restrictions are in place for a reason so try to follow by example and repair your car correctly. Why did your car fail? Have you run the codes on your car. I bet the O2 sensors are shot. How are the cats? Would it not make more sense to take care of it and have the engine run better and last longer, for the next while or the next guy to own the car. Advice is like pearls...you would not toss those away would you?

Well that is all I have to say.
