Crunching in 4th gear
I have a 93 TT that "crunches" or grinds 50% of the time when shifting into 4th gear. Will do from 3rd to 4th the same as 5th to 4th. Can "soft" shift or "delay" shift and most of the time keep it from grinding. However, will always grind yet go into gear without extra force when shifting fast.
Any suggestions or similar situations. THANKS

Re: Crunching in 4th gear
That kinda sounds like the syncro on 4th is gummed up, or starting to go. Sometimes switching to use a synthetic tranny fluid will help, and you might want to ask your local expert about this. It may delay having to rebuild the sucker
Hope this helps

Re: Crunching in 4th gear
Thanks Bob, your right on with the fluid, I already have Redline in their and it has helped slightly. Any general ideas on what a rebuild cost and also how long before a rebuild? Will this one just get progressively worse until I have to or will 3rd, 5th, 2nd etc all start to go bad before I need serious work?
Thanks

Re: Crunching in 4th gear
Once you install synthetic, it takes a couple of weeks to work out the buid-up of "gunk" around the syncro's, so I'd wait a while before you make any big-buck decisions. (I did this with an 88 Bimmer, and the sucker is still going strong, 2 years and 100k miles later). Best of Luck with it
