Burning up alternator leads
If anyone has any experince with this one let me know. I have burnt the alternator leads off of the pos post on the alt several times. I was told by a Gen. shop that it was my amp, to put an extra hot going straight to the battery, so I ran an 8 gauge . No luck!! Burnt again. I thought about the regulator also but I haven't had it tested yet. My lower splash shield was torn off but I now have a replacement and was wondering if the low placement of the alt and getting some possible spray could cause this, but it still puts out hella voltage (evident by the burning wires). I also run a yellow top Optima for added help for my amp. I don't really want to up the juice coming out of my alt so I can put another Yellow top in there. Any ideas at all or better yet, any previous experience with this would be a great help.

sounds like the regulator inside the alternator is on the fritz.
You might want to also check to make sure that the area around the positive connection lead is free and that the post itself is covered so that nothing can touch it.
